Weekly Comics Discussion

This week is a good week for trade paperback
collections. I’ll be picking up the cheap reprint of
Batman: The Dark Knight Archives Vol. 1 from
DC. DC is also releasing the third printing of
Green Lantern: Rebirth #1 and the second
printing of Green Lantern: Rebirth #2, both
of which I highly recommend. (I’ll review all six
issues when they’re out.) A reprint of Identity
Crisis #2
is also out there, as well as the
trade paperback of JLA: Another Nail. The
Marvel comics materials I’m picking up include
Essential Iron Man Vol. 2 (to be reviewed by
theangrymob at some point), Exiles #55 (part
one of a three part arc that runs through December,
and finishes the content of the next TPB, so I may
switch back to trades after this story), Marvel
Age Spider-Girl Vol. 2
, New Avengers
#1
, and Ultimates 2 #1. I’ll be
passing on the Avengers Disassembled tie-ins to
Thor (which will be the last collection of
that title for some time) and Spectacular
Spider-Man
(which includes the introduction of
organic web shooters and a super spider sense that
will be around for some time).

Ultimates 2? Is this just a new team or a retooling of the book as a whole?

Also, fiziko, have you checked out Spider Man India? I think it could make a funny review :)

Ultimates is now running like a TV series, with long breaks between the issues that make up different hardcover collections. It’s the same creative team picking up a year after the last issue left off, so there have been some changes in the roster for the Ultimates, but we’ll see the same characters.

As for Spider-Man India, I considered picking it up for the heck of it, but I think this week will be expensive enough for me as it is. (I’m estimating about $50, which is a fair chunk for my income this close to Christmas.)

I’d just like to say that you put WAY more thought and planning into your comic book purchases than I do. I just show up at comic book stores and see what they have to offer…

You know, you’re not the first to say this. The guy who runs the local comic shop quizzes me on what came in for me each week when I get there. He was surprised when I started bringing in my orders the week before the Previews issue with that order form shipped. Heck, I already know the trade paperbacks I’m ordering in March. (Both Essentials, and the first volume of the Batman Chronicles.)

Were you bitten by a radioactive supply clerck or something?

Though, I was more aware of when issues were coming back before Tom Strong fell into an infinite loop of parralel-universe stories…
Hey, they bunched up the first issues in a handy all-those-in-one format, didn’t they? Please review that : )

It features Nazi frauleins and a talking ape!
