It’s the last week of June, and DVD releases dry up a
little bit, since the July 4th weekend is usually so
huge at the box office. Still, there’s some good
stuff at great prices, particularly the pick of the
week.
First, the genre releases:
- Ren
and Stimpy
– Seasons Three and a Half-ish: I tried to
understand the appeal
of this series, and never could. - The
Twilight
Zone – Season 3 (Definitive Edition): This
collects episodes from
the original series. - The
Twilight
Zone – Seasons 2 and 3: This collects episodes
from the 1980s
revival series.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- The
Best of
Betty Boop: This seems like an interesting
collection. I’m just
concerned about the price and volume; that price for
that many
cartoons this old usually means poor quality. The
Superman
Diamond Anniversary Collection came out well, so
I’ll keep my
hopes up. - The
Browning
Version: It’s hard to go wrong with a Criterion
Collection release. - Crazed
Fruit: Another Criterion release. - The
Daily Show
with John Stewart – Indecision 2004: This is the
only news program
I can watch. - La
Femme
Nikita – Season Three: Another show with low
ratings but a devoted
following.
Finally, the pick of the week. Due
South: Season
One: This is far cheaper than the Canadian
releases, and it’s a
great show. Let’s hope it’s a good transfer. This
was an amazing
series, and one of the first hour-long comedies I’ve
seen.
