  1. Gratuitous cleavage
Could they make the excessive cleavage more obvious? Believe me, it’s not from a lack of enjoying the view, but it’s worked into EVERY FREAKING EPISODE! It’s just gratuitous and serves no point to the show at all except to have some hot chick with a low cut shirt (or in a bikini). It kind of takes away any seriousness they’re trying to bring to the show. It’s like their main audience is teenage boys and they want to keep it that way.

And I’m sorry, but the kid with the pet creature…what a stupid part of the story. Wouldn’t any normal kid be freaked out if his “pet” fried and nearly killed a police officer? No, this one runs away and steals a car to keep from giving it up. Please. I’d want to get rid of that thing as soon as possible!

The only reason I’m buying that story is because of how badly his parents/family treat him – Nimrod is his stand-in for that. Still, I was surprised that he did keep it around after it fried that animal control guy, and that dog, and the entire aquarium.

Actually, when he found out that it shocked things to death, he should have gotten freaked out then.

Yeah, isn’t it great? Sorry, but I’ll take as much of Lake Bell in a bikini or bra and panties as I can get.
The show doesn’t take itself seriously anyway, our course their main audience is teenage boys (of which I haven’t been for many years). Let’s see, lots of gratutitous skin, including teenagers in bikinis, a protagonist who is a misunderstood kid with his own pet monster… yup targeted at teenage boys.

i’m not a teenage boy, but this show does intrigue me mainly because im a big sci-fi person and anything that has to do with undersea monsters is a plus. sure its a show that tries to be serious and doesnt pull it off very well, but i still enjoy the campiness of it. not to mention lake bell is hot whether or not shes wearing clothes. but her in nevt to nothing is a bonus.

      • Teenage Boys
Hey, it’s a strong demographic, and although it’s a little ruled by its hormones *cough* it doesn’t mean they’re all that dumb.

I’d also like to point out that I’m still watching Surface yet have given up on Threshold – this may be partially due to a more coherent (not necessarily stronger) story, the fact it has sea monsters, and a conspiracy that has hundreds of members (each more sinister than the last – seriously, can we call that one guy Creepy Orchid Man? Flower Man?).

The fact that there are gratuitous cleavage shots is simply something that we, as adults, will have to deal with. My personal method is to watch them closely, if only to make sure that they’re not doing anything to the young boys of the world ;)

  2. the episode itself
i have to say as much as i like nim, the little electic beast, im happy to say that the whole “kid adopts pet and becomes a fugitive” sotry arc is hushed for now. the opneing scenes of the show with the plane going down into hundreds of the creatures was a nice touch. but when do i get to see a full sized creature up close?
