Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “I’m going with Season 1 of Loki as my primary pick of the week, with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as my 4K pick, and Lupin Zero as my anime pick.” Blaine says, “I’m going with Star Trek: Prodigy, the only Trek series to date that has produced 20 episodes without producing a single bad episode. Supporting the DVD and Blu-Ray releases may convince distributors that it’s worth picking up the rest of the series so we can actually see it. When it was cancelled by Paramount+, that was distribution only; 13 of the next 20 episodes were complete, and the production company decided to finish the last 7 in-progress episodes and shop it around anyway. (Source: The Hagerman brothers interview at STLV, released via the Mission Log podcast.)”

  1. Both Blue Beetle and Loki are worth seeing, and Interview with the Vampire is a fascinating re-envisioning of the original concept and story, with the timelines updated to different eras.

And while two of these are yet more superhero shows and one is a re-envisioning of a property, I rather worry more about lack of originality in a culture that offers up Bigfoot vs Megalodon 2 and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer . How is the latter not the title of a parody?

  2. I’m still befuddled why Paramount yanked Prodigy from streaming and now basically pretends it doesn’t exist. It’s a solid series and a great way to get kids into Star Trek and Sci-Fi.

I’ll watch Blue Beetle when it hits Max. It looks pretty good and I want to support studios when they branch out from “generic white male heroes”.
