Comments Blaine: My first and last Roman Polanski movie. It’s very good, but when I went to Webcrawler after watching it in 1995, I jumped onto Webcrawler to search up his name and find other titles to watch. I learned a LOT more than the names of his films.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “For my 4K pick, I kinda have to pick the original Godzilla – as mentioned in the description, it’s the 70th anniversary of the Big G (though Wizard of Oz is a real close second). For my anime pick, I’m going with Planetes. Nothing else really grabs me this week.” Blaine says, “I’m in a three way struggle. I think The Wizard of Oz comes out on top, but Godzilla is close, as is Doctor Who: The Jodie Whittaker Years. I think Whittaker is in a similar position to Colin Baker and Paul McGann in that her performance ability was a lot stronger than she could really show with the scripts they gave her.”

  1. I would agree with Godzilla and your comments on Jodie Whittaker.
1982 looks worth watching, at least, and 4:30 at the Movies is the first time in decades I’ve been interested in a Kevin Smith project.

Run Lola Run should be on the must-see list, and it’s SF, from a certain point of view. Blaine reviewed it here, years ago

I loved Orphan Black, and have yet to see Orphan Black: Echoes, but will. Maybe that would be my pick.

Return of the Living Dead remains a Halloween classic.

Apt. 7A is, apparently, the prequel to Rosemary’s Baby. As for that groundbreaking film, I’ve both reviewed it and briefly addressed the Polanski controversy a few years back, at the Bureau.

I’ve heard mixed things about Strange Darling, but enough to make me want to see it at some point.

  2. By all accounts, Reagan is a truly awful film. I may have to watch it (with a large drink) and have a laugh at the Right’s attempts to canonize Ronnie.

Wolfman’s Got Nards has been on my to-watch list for a while. I loved Monster Squad back in the day. Probably my first introduction to Shane Black.
