Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Discussion – The Griffin Incident
SNW leans hard into horror this week when La’an, Spock, and Jim Kirk find the long-lost ship, The Griffin.

A couple of notes.
This was Star Trek: Event Horizon. Not a bad move, since Event Horizon is a great horror flick (RIP, Sam Neill). It’s a gory episode. I don’t mind gore, but I don’t know if it’s appropriate in the mainline Star Trek series (it should be aimed at Middle School and up). Maybe I’m an old fuddy-duddy this way.
I’m sure the open-endedness of this one will piss off some fans. I’m OK with it, but Trek is about exploration and answers. So as long as these are few and far between that’s fine (who knows it may come back later this season or next).
La’an’s line about David’s fate was COLD, since we know that’s exactly how he dies.
I don’t know if Jim was waiting for the call to connect of if Carol was not answering. I suspect it was the latter and that also felt cold. But, we know where the relationship (with both Carol and David) end up, so this isn’t going to have a happy ending.

Also, since when was Kirk a boy scout? I remember a comment stating quite the opposite.
The open endedness is probably an homage to the horror genre.
