Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “I’m going for the Shaw Brothers Vol. 5 collection, as I’m interested in seeing a different, earlier take on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. People with the ability to play 4K UHD movies should get Once Upon a Time in the West.” Blaine says, “I enjoyed Incubus, but my top pick is Monk.”

  1. The Shaw Brothers thing is definitely something I may have to look at.

I totally missed that Kraven the Hunter was ever released in theatres. At least I’m assuming it was…

    • After a delay of a year or so, Kraven made it into theatres. You weren’t the only one who missed the fact. Columbia’s attempts at a Spidey-supporting-character side-MCU seems doomed to failure. Whether that’s because the movies aren’t good, the fans are toxic, or…. (insert opinion or Reddit theory here).

There are a number of other films I’ve overlooked out this week. At least one of them has to be a hidden gem.

I’m betting that Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge won’t be that movie.

      • I don’t think the Marvel fanbase is particularly toxic. Not like Star Wars, certainly. I saw a lot of love for the Spider-Man movies that they made for the MCU. I saw just as much support for the animated one that Sony helmed.

I think the issue was they took a popular villain character and tried to make a movie with him as a edgelord hero instead. (From the trailer.) On top of that, Sony’s best offering out of Morbius were memes that didn’t actually have to do with the movie, and Madam Web was just a hot mess. I think the movie going public has as much faith in a Kraven movie as they would Sharknado 18: This Time Without Sharks!

    • This is Kraven’s fifth week of release in theatres, released on December 12, 2024. The budget is estimated to be between $110 and $130 million US. The total box office to date is below $60 million. This particular weekend, it is tracking to make $346,000.
