Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “On the UHD side, I’m going with The Dark Crystal, though Fire Walk With Me is a close second. Otherwise, I’m going with Oddtaxi as a recommendation (with a particular note that this might be right up Blaine’s alley).” Blaine says, “of what I’ve seen, the Peanuts collection is my strongest recommendation, and that’s not particularly strong. That said, I look forward to checking out Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me when Jon and I finish Babylon 5: Thirty Years Later and move on to Cherry Pie and Murder: A Twin Peaks Podcast.”

    • I was unaware there was a doc on the Velvet Underground, so I’m looking forward to seeing that.

Peanuts at 75. You’re an Old Man, Charlie Brown!

While I really liked the early episodes of Twin Peaks, I’m afraid I was in agreement with the crowd that booed Fire Walk With Me at Cannes when it first came out.

There’s a remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer? I mean, it’s presented as a sequel, but it has the title and the plot sounds like a very slight variation of the original. I don’t care what you did last summer! Even in the teens slasher genre, it’s possible to try a little harder.

  1. HBO’s The Newsroom hits really different now that so many news agencies have decided to kowtow to the rotten orange. Much like its predecessor, The West Wing, they are idealized versions of a time that may never come to pass.

I recently watched the new Mortal Kombat and it was, predictably, very dumb but had decent action.

The John Adams miniseries is top-notch stuff. Highly recommended. Wish they’d give more Founding Fathers this treatment.
