  1. Of the three, this wasn’t the best episode. I still think they are writing the episodes for Prodigy and then adapting them for this show. The shenanigans wouldn’t have felt as out of place with kids the age of the ones in that show. With college level, students, it’s just…. Weird. I also think they are hitting Lucasfilms’s levels of merchandising, but I still want Warp Core clothes.. I also expect someone at corporate told this show that they had to have their own version of Quidditch, but wasn’t a Trekkie enough to know about Parrises Squares,

    • Agreed this was probably the weakest thus far. I knew a school rivalry episode was in the cards. Glad they got it out of the way early. College level kids can get into these level of shenanigans, so it’s fine with me.

A callback to an older Trek game would have been nice, but these are military cadets, a wargame (laser tag, paintball, etc.) makes sense.

Merch is definitely on the cards. I want the hoodie. I’ve heard a lot of people asking for the PJs and the lettermen jackets.

I don’t know if it was there before, but the display case in Ake’s quarters is FULL of nostalgia bait. Whoever is doing set dressing understood the assignment.

All-in-all, not a stand out episode, but we have to take the nostalgia glasses off and realize a lot of older Trek was bad…really bad (Code of Honor, Move Along Home, Sub Rosa). I’m digging the humor. I think you might be onto something that these are Prodigy scripts repurposed for the series.

If this (like Prodigy) can bring in younger watchers, I’m down for it. Trek can be like Marvel, a large tent with many different styles to appeal to a broader audience.

    • Oh and I am DOWN for Reno + Thok. That was delightful.

And I do hope the writers pull the stick out of Jay-Den’s hindquarters. I miss fun Klingons like Martok.

      • I am enjoying a peaceful Klingon, but he is still awkward in a way that fits, and he can outgrow.

I love both Reno and Thok, but I don’t see Reno + Thok. I probably just need to see them together more.

        • I do like the “warrior for peace” aspect, he’s just so damned awkward. But, then again, he’s a kid. Kids are awkward. If the show lasts, they do have room to give him an arc.
