I do like that we’re getting hints of how these characters became who we love. This one really dialed in on Scotty and his lack of confidence and his aversion to “loving” the Enterprise (because of the the Stardiver).
The reference to “miracle worker” made me smile.
Shout out to Dr. Phil Boyce. There’s a deep cut from Trek lore. They’re laying the foundation for M’Benga’s exit and McCoy’s assignment.
Someone on Reddit suggested a miniseries prequel (to a prequel, yes) of M’Benga and Chapel during the war. I would be down for that. The pair have chemistry.
By my count, we’re down 10 episodes left of this series. I wonder if they’re getting all the one-off stories done this season and the final six are the wrap up for the “new” characters.
I haven’t enjoyed the series this much since the first season. The “strange force neutrinos” particle bit works for deuterium, but is utter gibberish as a healing particle. (To “restore” organic molecules implies that there is a preferred state for them, not to mention ignoring all the blood loss.) Still, it’s the kind of utter gibberish that Trek has been doing since 1966, so it’s hard to hold it against them.
This was my only real issue with the episode, but it totally took me out of my suspension of disbelief. I’m amazed it isn’t more a problem in the reviews on the internets.
