…and Super-Size my Galactica Season 4…

Just in from Sci-Fi Wire, Sci-Fi Channel has upped the episode count ordered for Season Four of Battlestar Galactica. They are asking for 21 instead of the original 13. Also included in the deal, a special 2-hour movie that will be aired 4th quarter this year and released as a special DVD.

…more time to out additional characters as Cylons! I think the whole 4th season will revolve around the cat that jumped up on Laura’s desk a few eps back – OBVIOUSLY Cylon.

Damn, I was actually hoping fewer episodes would be better. This season we could then do away with both "Law and Order" episodes, "Helo P.I.", and the "Norma Rea" episode. How about a little actual science fiction in my science fiction, please.

The filler episodes and the bottled "drama" episodes in this season are straining so bad. The writers who have patted themselves on the back for so long are continuing to use hackneyed tricks and faulty logic, and even characters acting way out of their establised character at times to make their drama work.

I swear if the prosecuting lawyer in Baltar’s case were written any stupider…. I mean with only three questions, she could get six to implicate Baltar as at least intentionally negligent in his responsibilities on Caprica which allowed the Cylons to successfully attack. At that point it would be game over. I know we’ve been constantly manipulated to feel sympathy for Baltar, but look at it from the point of view of the fleet. If you found out that someone thinking with his …. caused the deaths of most of your family and friends, yeah, guilty would be the verdict, no matter what. Funny thing is the writers could have avoided this themselves by not allowing Caprica Six to be captured by the humans. But since they do have her as a potential witness, their only option for getting Baltar off is to write the prosecutor as freaking brain damaged!!!

        Um…
And how would a cylon’s testimony be more credible then the President’s? Or the second ranking officer in the military?

It isn’t stupid to start out with what you thought would be the most credible witness. – You get the jury on your side quick, then fill in the cracks with other stuff (cylon testimony) once they’ve bought into your arguement.

        Oops…
The XO’s a drunk nut-job and the President is taking drugs that make her see crap that isn’t there… Not quite a stratigic error on the part of the prosicuter, if you ask me.

Except my problem is that we haven’t seen Tigh fall this far off the wagon in a long time, then bam in this episode he screws up on the witness stand. And the presidents problem was manufactured within the episode.

It just feels to me like way much manipulating to make us feel sympathetic for Baltar. I really don’t like Baltar’s character and Galactica is better when hes not on the show. Well, he was mildly intersting with the cylons. The drama crap they pull with Baltar’s character within the fleet is just wearing very thin with me.

  2. Possibly good news
This could be good. It’ll give them time to wrap it all up properly and have a real, proper ending to the thing.

Right now it feels like one more season would be just about the right length to get the main arc done.

  3. The Big Finish
The rumor I heard was that *if* they extended Season 4, it would be an indication that it is indeed the final season. So while a larger order is normally a good sign, in this case it may be another nail in the coffin.

Personally I’d rather see them go back to shorter seasons. At least that way we’d find out if the crappiness of this season was due to a complete lack of ideas, or just the need for filler episodes to complete the longer season.

If this *is* the last season, I hope they at least bump up the effects budget so that they can do decent shows each week, and go out with a bang rather than whimper.

  4. Mixed Emotions
I’d read before that Moore had said if it was a full 22 it’d be to wrap up the story line, not to continue to five.

I honestly hope so – too much can ruin it.

  5. Season 3 Finale
Can we get a Crossroads, Part II discussion going now, or must we wait until the official Bureau42.com review of it?
