Weekly Comics Discussion – August 15, 2007

Another five week month, which can make each week a bit light. The complete list is available here. Also, sad news about Mike Wieringo can be found in the comments about the issue he penciled this week.

DC Comics

  • ACTION COMICS #854 – Countdown crossover
  • AMAZONS ATTACK #5 (OF 6)
  • AQUAMAN SWORD OF ATLANTIS #55
  • BLACK CANARY #4 (OF 4)
  • BOOSTER GOLD #1
  • BRAVE AND THE BOLD
  • CATWOMAN #70 – Amazons Attack crossover
  • COUNTDOWN 37
  • FLASH #231
  • FLASH GREATEST STORIES EVER TOLD
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #12
  • ROBIN #165
  • SUPERMAN BATMAN #39

Marvel Comics

  • ANNIHILATION CONQUEST QUASAR #2 (OF 4)
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA #29 – Initiative crossover
  • FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #23 – The last issue by Peter David and Mike Wieringo. Sadly, what I believe is the last Mike Wieringo comic ever, due to his unexpected passing this past Sunday. Some very nice tributes to him can be found here, here, and here.
  • IRON MAN DIRECTOR OF SHIELD TP – I haven’t reviewed this set yet, which falls after the reviewed Civil War crossover and before the World War Hulk crossover. The short review is that this set is better than the issues of either crossover which bookend it.
  • SUB-MARINER #3 (OF 6) – The Initiative
  • SUPER VILLAIN TEAM UP MODOKS 11 #2 (OF 5) – I suspect I’ll eventually break down and buy the trade, since this is likely a lot of good, old-fashioned fun.
  • TERROR INC #1 (OF 5) – Under the MAX imprint.
  • ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #112 – The first completely Bagley-free issue. Man, that’s going to feel weird.
  • WOLVERINE ORIGINS #16
