In 1969, a young, bored Marv Newland disregarded copyright law and most of the basic guidelines for successful film-making and threw together a moronic cartoon which propelled him to cult fame.
Title: Bambi Meets Godzilla
Available as part from Amazon.com on Rhino’s Bambi Meets Godzilla and Other Weird Cartoons and (in what may be the ultimate compliment to Newland) as a bonus feature on the release of Godzilla 1985.
Cast, Crew, and Other Info:
Written, directed, and animated by Marv Newland.
The film may be viewed at Youtube
Premise:
Bambi meets Godzilla. What else do you need to know?
High Point:
The credits.
Low Point:
Given its fame, you may feel let down. View it as it was doubtless meant to be viewed and you will likely laugh.
The Scores:
Originality: 6/6 A triumph of concept over anything resembling professional production values.
Animation: 3/6.
Story: 4/6. What? Four out of Six?
Ah! I do not jest. Re-watch
Its haiku-like grace.
Voice Acting: N/A
Production: 1/6. See “originality.” The production values are part of its charm.
Emotional Response: 4/6 Uh…. Well, it’s pretty funny.
Overall: 4/6. Newland saw the future, if only by accident. The Web and Youtube have opened the floodgates for a torrent of cheap, oddball projects which not infrequently disregard copyright.
In total, Bambi Meets Godzilla receives 22/36.
YES!!!
Well, given that it’s only 90 seconds long, I can forgive the negatives. Great film! Absolutely fantastic!
Hmmm. What about Bambi vs. the Death Star?

The first time I saw this, I laughed myself sick. It’s a beautiful little flick. With apologies to whooping llamas and Scandinavian moose-bite victims, I don’t think credits have ever been used so effectively anywhere else.
