Here’s a question for regular readers this week: given the popularity of DVD/Blu-Ray combo packs, digital downloads, and Amazon instant videos, another format change to the column may be in order. Instead of having DVD and Blu-Ray columns with both retailers listed, we could have retailer columns and have the editions described in the columns just as we currently do when more than one DVD or Blu-Ray edition is available. Thoughts?

Video Review – The Dervish House
This weekend is WorldCon, and the 2011 Hugo Awards. So, appropriately enough, I have a video review of this novel that I prepared several weeks earlier (for my own little web series) today. I’ll have another, more recent, video for Blackout tomorrow. Continue reading →
Weekly Digital Disk Picks for August 9th, 2011
Really slow week this week, but there’s still some interesting stuff in there.
NPR is looking for the top 100 Science Fiction & Fantasy Novels
NPR is doing a semi-formal poll to determine the top 100 Science Fiction and Fantasy novels. After much feedback from listeners, and having an expert panel narrow it down further, they’ve narrowed down the list to a few hundred. Now it’s up to us. They want readers to vote here, with ten titles per voter. On the 12th (eight days away) they will tabulate their votes and announce their top 100 titles.
So, go forth and vote!

Weekly Digital Disk Picks for July 19th, 2011
In addition to the two titles that our readers would consider door-crashers, we also have an assortment of “Best of” 10 episode TV collections and some rereleases. The economy must be bouncing back, too; I haven’t had to sift through that much soft porn preparing this column since 2006!
Movie Review – Battle Beyond The Stars
We have a movie review a little outside of our usual cycle by one of our users, Ian Finley. We’re running this outside of the usual weekend cycle because of all the blockbusters coming up, and because this is a film that got a semi-recent DVD release.
Weekly Digital Disk Picks for July 12th, 2011
The number of titles available this week isn’t particularly impressive, but there are several of high quality.

Light week this week, with a few gems, including a particularly critically acclaimed film by Wolfgang Petersen.
