Weekly Comic Discussion

With Angel, Smallville, and
Jake 2.0 pre-empted this week (for
Josie and the Pussycats on the WB, and
Stone Cold Truth on UPN) we might as well
read some comics. I’ll be picking up the trade paperback
collecting all of Joss Whedon’s Fray
miniseries, Fantastic Four #507, and
JLA / Avengers #3.

  1. For my money…
I’ll be grabbing JLA/Avengers #3, Empire #5, Green Lantern #171, and New X-Men #149. I’m excited about JLA/Avengers #3, but has anyone seen the cover for #4? No spoilers, but it looks like it could be a really cool finale. It’s been an excellent series so far.

  2. Shocked by Fray Quality
I’ve only recently made a return – a partially illegal one, at that – and yesterday I read the Fray series that I’d heard such good things about (while taking great pains to avoid learning anything spoilerish at the same time). I have to say that the Fray miniseries was one of the best things I’ve read in comics. I was initially afraid that it would be a too-dark, too-foreboding futuristic kind of deal. But, it turned out to be a fun, fast (since I wasn’t waiting months to finish it) and exciting ride. For those who haven’t read it, I have to give the collected Fray a very strong recommendation. It’s no Milk & Cheese but it’s pretty darn good.

Good to hear. I’ll be reading it once I finish my take home final
exam. I’ll give it a full review shortly thereafter.
