joe__gee writes, MSNBC and Newsweek this week have a peek at Superman Returns, which is due for a Summer 2006 release. The reader gets a little back story on the eleven year journey to revive the Superman franchise, and there’s a bit of reveal about the setup for this film. Do we have any bets on Lois Lane’s son’s name – will he be named Lars, Leroy, Lance, or Larry?
Hmmm…
I enjoyed reading that review, and it gave me a positive impression of the movie—but we’ll have to wait and see what the final verison’s like.
Worth it?
The big question is, will this be worth the destruction of the X-Men franchise? I have a lot of hope for this movie, but I think the X-Men franchise is going to fall hard with the next movie.
Mind you, I thought the first X-men was just ok, but the second is really part of a two part story, and now a story where is creator has left. The studio is going to excercise too much influence on X3 for it to be any good at all.
I blame Fox.
I think the question is: Was the destruction of the franchise unavoidable? Would it had made a difference having Singer’s name on it if the suits messed it up anyway? See “Burton / Apes” for an example of how a big name director is no garantee against extreme crapyness.
Re: I blame Fox.
Hey!! Burton’s Planet of the Apes was a great movie, up until the final 10 minutes, then it was, oh yeah I see your point. I have never seen a movie so utterly destroyed by it s ending.
