Classic Sci-Fi Shows for Download

We all know about Lost and BSG available for purchase and download, but this one was new to me: Google and CBS are making some classic Sci-Fi available. Here’s a quick list:

  • Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
  • Star Trek: Voyager
  • Twilight Zone
  • MacGyver

They seem to all be $1.99 per episode and only a handful of episodes are currently available.

    uh, yeah.
Pro: It’s cheaper than their obscenely overpriced box sets (at least for the two Treks).

Con: Low resolution, DRM’d to Hell and back, oh, and the Google Video player requires you to have a working Internet connection, even for downloaded-and-paid-for content (so no watching DS9 on a long plane trip).

I’m not listing the lousy selection as a "con" because I assume they’ll expand their selection over time. (i.e. get the good stuff, like the last half of DS9’s seventh season, and the kickass "Year Of Hell" episode of Voyager)

    DRM
DRM is bad, requiring a network connection is bad.

    And of course
…they only offer it to the US (so the rest of world will continue to get them for free in other parts of the net ;-)
