As a Gen-Xer, I grew up with adults that fought in this war and heard so many first-hand tales of what it was like. If you served, thank you for your service. I know it was brutal.

My dad was drafted, but was only shipped to Germany, not to an active combat zone.

Clearly this wasn’t one I studied. I also have an aversion to wars and histories of humans trying to kill each other, so I tend not to focus on it.
Ditto, my dad spent a few years in a German motor pool, but apparently still had to be ready to hop on a plane to the jungle at any time. Thankfully that never happened for him.
