Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “As someone who can play UHD disks and has a turntable, the Spider-verse collection (with the bonus 7″ record) has some appeal (though I’d have preferred ‘What’s Up Danger’ as the song from Into the Spider-verse). Otherwise that Sonny Chiba collection is going on my to-get list.” Blaine says, “I’d go with Spider-Verse or Strange New Worlds this week.”

  1. I wouldn’t pick up Duel, but it’s a must-see at least once. And there’s one really good film about teens in the 50s, and it doesn’t involve the late twenties John Travolta and early-thirties Olivia Newton-John dancing to discofied rock ‘n’ roll. If you haven’t seen The Last Picture Show, it is rightly considered a cinematic classic.

Strange New Worlds is a natural. I’ve heard great things about For All Mankind but haven’t got around to seeing it.

I haven’t seen Sound of Freedom, but I’m told it’s more covertly Qanon than outright propaganda, ie using the reality of child trafficking and an over-the-top adventure narrative to imply things it knows part of its audience will infer. However, I’ve not seen it.

    • For All Mankind is excellent. It gets a little soap-opera-y in Season 2 and 3, but it’s fun seeing the stuff NASA and the Soviet Union had on the drawing board actually make it onto the screen. I have not yet started Season 4, but it looks promising.
