It’s always great to be Canadian. In weeks like this,
it’s even better than usual.
First, the genre releases:
- Doctor
Who (2005) – Complete First Series: Just as US
retailers obtained
Battlestar Galactica 2.0 months before
Canadian retailers,
Canadian retailers will have access to the latest DVD
incarnation of
Doctor Who months before US retailers. Of course,
since Canada and
the US are in the same DVD region, it’s a question of
whether or not a
several month wait is worth the shipping costs. - Farscape
–
Season Three, Collection Two (Starburst Edition):
I’m still
waiting for Starburst box sets. - Goof
Troop,
Volume 1: Collecting a few episodes of the
series. - He-Man
and the
Masters of the Universe – Season One, Volume Two:
The rest of the
first season. - Mirrormask:
With
animation. - The
Pretender
– Complete Third Season: The show ran for four
seasons originally. - Quack
Pack,
Volume 1: I don’t think I ever watched this
one. - Zathura:
I’ve heard good things about this family film.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- The
Andy
Griffith Show – Complete Fifth Season: The final
year for Barney
Fife. - Ballykissangel
– Complete Series Four: More British Drama. - Charles
In
Charge – Complete First Season: I vaguely remember
this when it
was first on. - Club
Paradise: Robin Williams directed by Harold Ramis?
I’ll give this
one a shot. - Fresh
Prince
of Bel-Air – Complete Third Season: Now this is a
story all about
how his life got flipped, turned upside-down… - Gimme
a Break
– Season One: I vaguely remember watching this
show. - Golden
Girls –
Complete Fourth Season: I remember this show all
too well. - Grey’s
Anatomy
– Complete First Season: I’ve heard great things
about this show,
but haven’t actually watched it. - La
Bete
Humaine: A Jean Renoir film in the Criterion
Collection. - Little
Lord
Fauntleroy: Another Criterion Collection
release. - Metropolitan:
Criterion strikes again! - Quick
Change: A Bill Murray comedy I haven’t seen.
There are too many
of those… - Saw
II: It
didn’t take long to get this sequel out. That’s
rarely a good sign. - Young
Mr. Lincoln: This Criterion release was directed
by John Ford.
Finally, the pick of the week. It has to be the new
Doctor
Who. This is a great show, that actually got me
involved when
previous incarnations did nothing for me.
