History of the Internet Trivia | Dorky Geeky Nerdy #320

Welcome users! For this week’s installment, we have History of the Internet Trivia. It’s hard to believe the Internet has been around long enough to have “history” but here we are.

As always, this show has three rounds of ten questions each. I ask the questions, and you provide some answers. Whether they’re correct is between you and anyone else in earshot.

  1. The Internet! I love that technology! I’ve been online since your “phone line ” joke was relevant.

Dorky – 10 right, 10 points – I didn’t realize the site was four years old already when I had gotten my account.
Geeky – 9 right, 18 points – I missed the search engine question. I knew that. – BBSes, while I loved them, I wasn’t sure we can call it the internet.
Nerdy – 4 right, 12 points – I saw dial-up-modems that were faster than that speed! (I was off them by then.) – I forgot that Tubular senator’s name. I like it that way.

I did better than I have in a long while, and I still think I could have done much better. I haven’t had my coffee, and that’s mostly due to being up late with a sick kid.

  2. Dorky – 9/10
    Geeky – 10/10
    Nerdy – 8/10

Like Lex, I misidentified the senator, and also thought that dial-up modems got faster, but checking that answer now says that the speed you quote in the episode really was the fastest they could do because of the limits of phone lines.

For the Dorky round, the answer was on the tip of my tongue, but didn’t materialize within the time limit.
