  1. My thoughts:

Can’t say I’m interested in Masters of the Universe. Maybe it’s my “meh” feelings about the original toys or my dread of Jared Leto’s Skeletor, but I’m not feeling this one. Feels like it’s trying way too hard to be Guardians of the Galaxy. FWIW, I liked the Kevin Smith animated version (the score in particular). Fun story, apparently Skeletor was one of Frank Langella’s favorite roles because his son thought he was “cool” in it. It’s a masterclass in scene stealing and scenery chewing. Glorious.

Now, I might catch flak, but I’m looking forward to Supergirl a little more than I was Superman. Another Guardians look-a-like, but James Gunn is the producer, so it’s to be expected. I like the trope of drunk loser-to-hero. I didn’t realize the comics had this version of Supergirl (only used to the really bad movie and the DCAU versions). It makes sense. Clark didn’t see his home destroyed whereas Kara did. She’s got understandable trauma.

  2. He-Man:
Brian is right, that Kevin Smith’s series was excellent. I don’t think I’d want a Kevin Smith live action series, but for a nostalgia-bait cartoon series I will watch a few more seasons of that, easily.

For this movie, I was a huge fan, one of those little kids who would shout “I have the power!” all the time, and even so… Well, as I have been saying, my expectations are low, below the last attempt low, but it looks like it could be fun, and at least look pretty. The Battle Cat logo was fun.

I imagine there was a conversation between Gunn and DC where DC says, “Can we have a Guardians movie?” and Gunn asks, “Can I have your Aquaman?”
After seeing Momoa in Slumberland, Lobo (what tiny bit about him I know) seems perfect.

    • I feel like we’ve been talking about Momoa as Lobo for a decade or more (like before Aquaman). Seems like a perfect fit.

Yes, Battle Cat as the MGM logo was a clever “blink and you’ll miss it” moment.
