Weekly Comics Discussion – June 11, 2008

The complete list is available here.

Dark Horse Comics

  • PENNY ARCADE TP VOL 05 THE CASE OF THE MUMMYS GOLD

DC Comics

  • 100 BULLETS #92
  • ABSOLUTE SANDMAN HC VOL 03
  • ACTION COMICS #866
  • BOOSTER GOLD #10
  • CHUCK #1 (OF 6) – Based on the TV series.
  • DC UNIVERSE SPECIAL SUPERMAN MONGUL
  • GOTHAM UNDERGROUND #9 (OF 9)
  • GREEN ARROW BLACK CANARY #9
  • GREEN LANTERN CORPS #25
  • JOKER THE GREATEST STORIES EVER TOLD TP – My experience with these volumes has been good, though I wouldn’t say they are the “greatest” stories for each character. I’d say they represent archetypal stories for the character in different eras of their history, so it’s an enjoyable set that gives a nice perspective on a character’s history, but stories are limited to one or two issues only due to space constraints. They’re good samples of what the character is like so you can decide if you want to get more of that character.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA HC VOL 03 INJUSTICE LEAGUE
  • SALVATION RUN #7 (OF 7)
  • TRINITY #2 – This weekly started last week.
  • WONDER WOMAN #21

IDW Comics

  • ANGEL AFTER THE FALL #8

Image Comics

  • INVINCIBLE #50

Marvel Comics

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #562
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA TP VOL 01 DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA – If you haven’t read these issues, GET THEM NOW. This is the best title Marvel’s putting out right now, and it keeps getting better.
  • CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI 13 #2 – Secret Invasion crossover. Expect a fairly prompt review.
  • CLANDESTINE #5 (OF 5)
  • ETERNALS #1
  • HULK RAGING THUNDER – This is the “Hulk vs. Thundra” one shot by Jeff Parker and Mitch Breitweiser.
  • IRON MAN LEGACY OF DOOM #3 (OF 4)
  • LAST DEFENDERS #4 (OF 6)
  • MOON KNIGHT #19
  • NEW EXILES #7 – I dropped this title after issue . It’s fallen from its heyday in the Judd Winick era, and it’s become clear to me that the aspects of that era Chris Claremont liked best were different from the aspects I liked best.
  • SECRET INVASION WHO DO YOU TRUST? – This one shot has five stories by five creative teams showcasing different characters. This review will be a higher priority than the Captain Britain and MI 13 review.
  • SILVER SURFER TP IN THY NAME – I recommend avoiding this. I was unimpressed by both the story and the art.
  • SKAAR SON OF HULK #1 – I’ll give this a shot, at least for a while.
  • TWELVE (OF 12)
  • X-FORCE AINT NO DOG

Arcana’s first-ever Kade box set will ship this month.

At a recent charity car show, I snapped some shots of Adam "Batman" West and Julie "Catwoman" Newmar arriving by Batcopter. There’s also a pic of George Barris riding on the hood of the Batmobile.

Oh, and Lynda Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the 70s, recently stumbled across a dead body. I guess heroes do just wander into these situations.
