This week is small in terms of selection, but it’s huge in terms of quality. I’ve also chosen not to list most of Universal’s DVD/Blu-Ray combo rereleases, including only the highest selling title in the series (Serenity).

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “The Lord of the Rings Extended editions – for all the really good anime this week, nothing compares to it. As an aside, the Galaxy Express 999 movies will be going into my Netflix queue.” Blaine says, “listen to Alex.”
At $70 I can’t say I’m motivated to get the LOTR set on Blu-Ray, since I already own the extended editions on DVD. I’m sure it looks spectacular, but really, aside from the picture quality, there isn’t any benefit. The movies are still on multiple discs each, the extras are all still on DVD, and the extras are the exact same discs as the DVD except for an extra documentary I probably wouldn’t watch anyway.
So unless my entire set of LOTR DVDs encounters an untimely demise, I’ll stick with them.
Side note: Was there a Super 8 review or discussion I missed? I didn’t see one, didn’t turn one up on the search. Seems like something that would have been quite on topic here. I saw it last night and it was quite good.
I dunno. Sad thing is I’m actually very tempted, even though I don’t know when I’d ever get to watch it! I do think it’d be fun to do a marathon sometime. Girlfriend would probably rather shoot herself though!
