Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 May 10

Happy Mother’s Day!  If you aren’t too busy baking or breaking bread for your mom, television’s Dominating Caste of heroes has a bunch of shows for you, as Batwoman searches for rich folks, Supergirl fights biblical monsters, The Flash might end its season, but might almost send its season, and the Legends get schooled  at Animal House.  Blindspot tries to build their own FBI level operation while on the run, taking the show into the realm of fantasy, and Blacklist toys with the idea of killing off their hit character to shift the spotlight back to the female lead.  There have been multiple reports of seasons ending and shows finishing early as the studios had gone into lockdown, but there were enough conflicting reports that each episode could be the last and it would not be surprising.  Equally ambiguous, She-Ra might drop season five this week.

Call your mom!

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 May 3

After some Disappoint Character1 omissions, Supergirl returns to aid Batwoman in entertaining all of us quarantined views.  Westworld gives us the finale of their season three robot uprising.  Zoey, after spending last week with her mom, spends this week with her dad.  Riverdale fantasizes about actually ending their time in High School.  Blindspot returns with the season five opener and Blacklist possibly ends its season, depending on how the quarantine allows the studio to wrap things up, as this was their last episode before they had to close up.  Here’s hoping your stockpiles last longer than the studio’s do!!

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 April 26

Despite Covid fears, more of the heroes have returned to work, as Batwoman gets a repeat enemy, Flash continues to fight with, and for, his wife, and the Legends do what it seems like everyone is into all of a sudden: bake!  Westworld gives us the second to last episode for the season as all their players are on the game board.  Zoey works with her mother.  On Riverdale, all of the “teens” focus on business ventures, like most normal teens.  The Blacklist goes after brothers, and the Ducks visit animal versions of popular animes.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 April 19

Still inside?  Good news!  The Flash and the Legends have Defeated Corona and returned, with the Flash bringing the creepiest of assassins, Rag Doll back while the Legends seem to be planning a pastiche of Supernatural.  The anti-penultimate episode of Westworld arrives and the episode descriptions are just outright making fun of the people who are looking for individual episode descriptions.  Zoey listens to a SPRQ Point turf war, which probably will give us West Side Story vibes.  Cosmos gives a bright look at the near future.  Saul gives us season five’s finale.  The Blacklist seeks to help Dembe’s buddy.  If you want some animation, Louie turns 11 on DuckTales and Spider-Man gives some some symbiote shenanigans.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 April 12

With everyone telecommuting, the Breakroom’s television seems to be getting a break, also.  Even Westworld is just saying “No.” to our Genre.  Neil and the Scientists on Cosmos are working tirelessly, still giving us two episodes, but otherwise all we have are the villains of Riverdale as they perform a musical episode, Jimmy tries to get back to business as usual (wouldn’t we all?) and Red goes against his own task force on Blacklist.  Anyone binge anything fun lately?

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 April 5

The superheroes, having found themselves all in the same universe, are being responsible and staying in their own lairs and not returning, yet.  If you want superpowers, you are going to have to get by on either Zoey as she helps her dad’s caregiver, or the robots of Westworld as they continue to try a corporate takeover.  If neither are real heroes to you, we do get another double dose of science as Neil deGrasse Tyson explores quantum mechanics and political involvement in science.  There’s villains, as Jimmy plays Bagman on Better Call Saul, and Red takes the Blacklist to Alaska.  If you’ve got your kids with you, the DuckTales get to play Bond.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 March 29

I hope you weren’t looking for superheros, because they are doing their part to Defeat Corona by staying in.  We do get some villains, as Better Call Saul reduces to initials and the FBI investigates some hackers on Blacklist.  Our AI cowboys spend some time working on their appearance on Westworld.  Cosmos gives us a search for intelligence on earth and then goes to the moon with Cassini.  Good Doctor (not a real one, a fictional hero) ends his season.  If you’re stuck home with kids, Zoey is a glitch, and DuckTales returns with two episodes.  Anything else you are doing while sheltering-in-front-of-the-television?

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 March 22

With the Bureau’s physical offices closed down due to the quarantine, we hope that all of you Bureaucrats are staying healthy.  To help you shelter in place, the Breakroom television remains tuned in to avoid the the Disastrous Consequences of cabin fever.  Watch as our characters all take trips, starting as Batwoman decides to travel through the looking glass, while on Supergirl, Alex finds herself in Wonderland, and the Legends split up to let Zari take center stage.  Our only other superhero this week ends his season as Picard deals with the impending arrival of god-like AI-aliens.  (AIliens?)  If god-like artificial intelligences are too OP for you, feel free to scale it back with this week’s Westworld as the AI robots infiltrate the outside world.  If you need even more science, but less fiction, Cosmos gives us two more episodes examining consciousness’s evolution and Carl Sagan’s personal evolution.  The last tenuous link to science fiction we have this week is Zoey, who confesses to Max.  Saul manages to avoid being stopped by Kim and Jimmy, The Good Doctor starts its season finale with an earth shaking first part, and Ultron Spader Red takes an island vacation to enjoy some art on The Blacklist.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 March 15

I hope you are all staying healthy.  If you find yourself quarantined or off work or trapped at home with your offspring while schools are closed, at least there is plenty of shows this week.  While you are Disinfecting for Corona, Batwoman will be exploring Alice’s story, Supergirl defends transgender rights, The Flash get some sunshine, and the Legends deal with marriage. Blacklist also returns with a doubleheader to kick off the second half of their season, while Better Call Saul kicks Mike out of town.  If your kids are off of school, you might find yourself watching a lot more of their television, like how my daughter has added the Glee-like Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist to our rotation.  Since it borders on telepathy/empathy/ESP, I was going to include it here to see if anyone else was interested in it.  If you want to keep their brains from atrophying, Neil deGrasse Tyson has you covered with another double helping of Cosmos, to go with your first half of the Picard series finale.  If Picard doesn’t give you enough Artificial Intelligence discussions, Westworld returns this week to help you explore the nature of sentience further.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 March 8

Coming in like a lion, the Deserted Crowd of Disguise and Costume roar back onto the breakroom boobtube, and Batwoman realizes she should smile a bit more, Supergirl will always love you, Black Lightning finishes his season, The Flash finishes off the Speed Force, and The Legends meet up with a non-spider-powered Mr. Parker.  Saul takes up Yoga and finds inner peace.  Things are looking up for Neil deGrasse Tyson, as his second season of Cosmos returns with two episodes.  The other type of Good Doctor takes two recently broken up doctors and makes them work together on a small problem.  Someone does their best to keep the Riverdale “teens” from getting back to the screen.  To round out the week, we also get Picard learning what really caused the demise of the red planet.
