This week, the big rumor, from Variety magazine, is
that kickass babe Michelle Yeoh (“Tomorrow Never Dies”)
will be replacing Jet Li (“Black Mask”) because, reportedly,
he wanted too much money.

The Lone Gunmen promo site
fiziko writes, I guess the old Mutant Watch site worked well to
promote X-Men, so Fox is doing it again. A Lone Gunmen promo site is up
here. This time it’s a company
called E-Com-Con, whose staff includes one Suzanne Modeski.
Star Wars Trilogy On VHS (Yet Again)
Nope, still no DVD release. I don’t think they’re planning that until, oh, 2006. In the meantime, the annual “new” edition of the Star Wars video tapes is out, and reviewed over here. There’s a very brief snippet of documentary video that spoils almost nothing about Episode II; if you want to see what you’re (not) missing, go read that review.
The Weakly Movie Numbers
The only definitely-themed SF/Fantasy film on the charts this week, Dungeons & Dragons, was number 5 with a crossbow bolt last weekend, grossing just over $7 million. “The Grinch” is still pimpin’, doubling that and then some.
In completely unrelated news that didn’t justify its own story, the rumor mill reports that William Shatner may quit doing those goofy Priceline commercials. It may be related to the fact that his pay was in stock options, which have dwindled from $20 million in value to about $250,000.
Simpson-Opoly
It just looks cool. They’re making a “Simpsons” themed version of the classic board game “Monopoly.” The Nuclear Power Plant is almost certainly gonna be the new Boardwalk; so, what will Baltic Avenue be? (I’m gonna bet on Moe’s.) Oh yeah, the press release.
Dune: Breakin’ Records, Kickin’ A**
The “Dune” miniseries on The Sci-Fi Channel not only
was really cool (it inspired me to pull out my much-abused
paperback copy of the book), but it was the highest-rated,
most-watched event in that channel’s history. It averaged
just under 3 million viewers, according to this report
on the channel’s own Web site.
The Matrix 2: Who ISN’T In It?
Okay, we’ve confirmed that all the biggies from “The
Matrix” are coming back for the sequel. Actress Jada
Pinkett-Smith has just signed on, and the Wachowski
Brothers are reportedly talking with singer Aaliyah, Harold Perrineau
Jr., Harry Lennex, and Carrie-Anne Moss’ co-star in “Red
Planet,” Benjamin Bratt. So, other than me, who hasn’t been offered a role?
Tell us all about your role in the “Matrix” sequel.
Silly Web Tricks With fandom.com
This is news to me, but apparently I’m the last one to
hear of it: a boycott of the fandom site fandom.com, a site
that hosts lots and lots of fan-based Web sites for SF and just about everything else.
Read about the boycott here and tell us what you think.
The SF Christmas Shopping Guide
Even geeks want gifts… If you’re not sure what to buy for your favorite SF fan this year (or, if you’re not sure what to ask for), check out the Sci-Fi Gift Guide. Coming soon: my gift list. :-)
Monty Python And The Holy Lego
It’ll take about a zillion years to download all the graphics, but this rendition of select scenes from “english crazy movie” Monty Python And The Holy Grail is worth the wait. Just trust me on this.
