Now that I’m almost caught up, this time I’m giving my thoughts on the Hugo Award nominees for Best Professional Artist… after I do a quick review of Need For Speed: The Run. More…

In addition to the 2011 Seiun Award Nominees, the 2011 Hugo Award Nominees were announced today. While io9 has beaten us to the list, where they have speed, we have quality – we have links to the web pages of nominated persons and magazines where possible and Amazon.com links to nominated works (of we weren’t able to link directly to them), plus little bit of analysis. Nominees are below the cut. More…

The nominees for the 42nd annual Seiun Awards have been announced, and rather than wait until the winners have been announced like last time, I’ll give a run-down of the nominees, based on a Google translation of a Japanese site with the list, which can be found here. The original versions of the titles are being placed next to the Google Translated versions, in case someone who understands Japanese better wants to translate the titles for me.

The 2011 Academy Award nominees are out today.
With the exception of Inception and Toy Story 3, genre films were pretty much relegated to the technical awards.
For the second year, we have 10 nominees for Best Picture and we get to speculate if genre films would even make the cut of five like there used to be.
One thing that did surprise me was Tron: Legacy not getting a nomination for Visual Effects. I was kind of hoping they could win one, just right the wrong of the first film being snubbed because “they used computers, and that’s cheating.”
So, what are your takes on the nominees and what genre films do you think will walk away with a statue?

Anime News Network has the results of this year’s Seiun Awards. For those who are unfamiliar with the awards, the Seiun Awards (Seiun being the Japanese word for Nebula) are handed out every year at the Nihon SF Taikai (or Japan Science Fiction Convention). Voting is done in a manner similar to the Hugo Awards – voting is open to attendees of the convention. Here’s a link to a Google Translated version of the results, and I’ll have my own list below the cut. The full list of Nominees can be found here. More…
