The Iron Man Cometh

To film that is. Marvel has optioned the comic book character to New Line Cinema. The movie is expected to be released sometime in 2005.

Perfect timing, I just finished “Essential Iron Man, Vol. I.” This is one of my favorites, so I’m pretty excited.

Turkish SF rip-offs

Timeshredder writes, Several Turkish-made films exist which rip off big budget American SF and fantasy, remake them (sort of) for less budget than the average personal website, and insert pirated effects scenes from the original. Googling “Turkish Star Wars” or “Turkish Star Trek” will result in various sites reviewing these, with varying degrees of hilarity and incredulity. These could be an amusing way to pass the time, at least until tonight’s new Smallville and tomorrow’s new Angel.

People’s Choice Awards

The People’s Choice Awards were given out on Sunday. A list of the winners can be found here. Genre winners include Fellowship of the Ring and Spider-Man in a tie for best picture, Fellowship of the Ring for best dramatic movie, and Mel Gibson for best actor from his work in Signs.
