Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 May 17

The shows are winding down, not just because of that Disease, Corona, but because it’s time for seasons to end.  Though, just like Flash was hurrying up, the endings are happening faster than they had expected.  Before they’re gone, we still have Batwoman fighting a “former hero”, Supergirl turns into a soap opera as everyone has to deal with everyone the swore they would never trust again, and the Legends do Zombie Apocalypse.  Standing alone against the odds, the lone Marvel character is an animated Spider-Man, whose episode is named for the beloved 80s Spider-Man, but is actually just a Groot story.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 March 22

With the Bureau’s physical offices closed down due to the quarantine, we hope that all of you Bureaucrats are staying healthy.  To help you shelter in place, the Breakroom television remains tuned in to avoid the the Disastrous Consequences of cabin fever.  Watch as our characters all take trips, starting as Batwoman decides to travel through the looking glass, while on Supergirl, Alex finds herself in Wonderland, and the Legends split up to let Zari take center stage.  Our only other superhero this week ends his season as Picard deals with the impending arrival of god-like AI-aliens.  (AIliens?)  If god-like artificial intelligences are too OP for you, feel free to scale it back with this week’s Westworld as the AI robots infiltrate the outside world.  If you need even more science, but less fiction, Cosmos gives us two more episodes examining consciousness’s evolution and Carl Sagan’s personal evolution.  The last tenuous link to science fiction we have this week is Zoey, who confesses to Max.  Saul manages to avoid being stopped by Kim and Jimmy, The Good Doctor starts its season finale with an earth shaking first part, and Ultron Spader Red takes an island vacation to enjoy some art on The Blacklist.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 March 15

I hope you are all staying healthy.  If you find yourself quarantined or off work or trapped at home with your offspring while schools are closed, at least there is plenty of shows this week.  While you are Disinfecting for Corona, Batwoman will be exploring Alice’s story, Supergirl defends transgender rights, The Flash get some sunshine, and the Legends deal with marriage. Blacklist also returns with a doubleheader to kick off the second half of their season, while Better Call Saul kicks Mike out of town.  If your kids are off of school, you might find yourself watching a lot more of their television, like how my daughter has added the Glee-like Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist to our rotation.  Since it borders on telepathy/empathy/ESP, I was going to include it here to see if anyone else was interested in it.  If you want to keep their brains from atrophying, Neil deGrasse Tyson has you covered with another double helping of Cosmos, to go with your first half of the Picard series finale.  If Picard doesn’t give you enough Artificial Intelligence discussions, Westworld returns this week to help you explore the nature of sentience further.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 March 8

Coming in like a lion, the Deserted Crowd of Disguise and Costume roar back onto the breakroom boobtube, and Batwoman realizes she should smile a bit more, Supergirl will always love you, Black Lightning finishes his season, The Flash finishes off the Speed Force, and The Legends meet up with a non-spider-powered Mr. Parker.  Saul takes up Yoga and finds inner peace.  Things are looking up for Neil deGrasse Tyson, as his second season of Cosmos returns with two episodes.  The other type of Good Doctor takes two recently broken up doctors and makes them work together on a small problem.  Someone does their best to keep the Riverdale “teens” from getting back to the screen.  To round out the week, we also get Picard learning what really caused the demise of the red planet.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 February 23

The week seems severely front loaded, with most of the shows appearing this week, but there is still a surprise on Thursday.  Before that, we travel time as Doctor Who races to the future to deal with the effects of the information given out at the end of last week.  In calmer settings across the pond, the midwives deal with being homeless and drug addiction.  Bet you didn’t see that coming, huh?  Then, our Doggedly Caped heroes hit with new villains for Batwoman and Supergirl taking a look back for her 100th episode.  Black Lightning (who does not have a cape) returns to Freeland to fight the epic battle, still without his new heroic friends in his new earth.  The Flash has some more monkey business with Grodd, and the Legends shout Khan.  The Good Doctor autopsies last week’s breakup.  The Riverdale teens play the I Know What You Did Last Summer game.  On Star Trek: Picard, Jean-Luc has to confront his time as a Borg again.  That’s all that’s visible on my weekly schedule, which leaves the rest of the weekend to binge Altered Carbon season 2, this time with Falcon taking over the lead role.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 February 16

After the love hangover of last week, The Doctor takes us deep into historic literature, while Trixie works with a mother who can’t see how much help the Midwives are being.  The DC shows switch up a bit, while Batwoman has a crisis of sisters, Supergirl continues the visit from Season One Winn, while the Flash brings us an Elongated Man episode, and the Legends try to work Zari back into the show.  The Good Doctor keeps pitting his two girlfriends against each other, and our favorite retired Star Fleet admiral, with help from an attractive ex-Borg, visit the exciting site of Freecloud.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 25 January 2020

The Judoon return to Doctor Who this week, bringing back a fan favorite rhinoceros-headed aliens.  Elsewhere in space, Picard continues to try to solve the mystery of Data’s daughter.  The Midwives are called to make a case for home service for births (instead of hospitals,) as well.  That’s just the start of this week’s shows.  Are you unable to cope with the Deluge?  Can’t keep up with all of these shows?  Good news, one of them is going away!  Arrow airs its finale this week, bringing eight years to a close for the show that started one of the most successful runs of DC properties in video.  Batwoman’s birthday even takes a back seat, Supergirl brings a season one star back, all the other heroes are still to busy to stop by Freeland to help their new friend Black Lightning, and the Legends skip this week to make room for a special set of postmortem interviews with Arrow creators.  Elsewhere, Archie Comics give us another episode of Riverdale, and the next season of Sabrina is still hanging out if you have more time to hang out in the Bureau’s Breakroom.

Superman and Lois is greenlit as a series

Before we get the reviews of the final two chapter of CW’s DC Crisis, news has come out that Superman and Lois was picked up as a series to spin off of Supergirl.  It will follow the two title characters as they explore the adventures of parenthood with their newborn.  They may be joined by Green Arrow and the Canaries, who gets a backdoor pilot in the back half of Arrow‘s final season.
