Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 13 January 2019

Oh, there you are!  The midwinter break has come to a close and we are seeing the regular comic television return.  The Gifted weathered the winter weather better than others, even if the Bureau42 reviews did not.  That Reviewer really needs to stop messing with time lines and just post the reviews already.  The Flash has raced back to us first, with what is sure to be some sound uses of physics and technology.  Arrow thought he was out, but is pulled back in.  The Gifted has the Mutant Underground reorganize, and the Riverdale teens deal with Veronica’s father’s takeover.

Also, Netflix is giving us Season 2 of The Punisher before the inevitable annunciation of its cancellation, and in case you wanted something non-comic related, there’s a new Star Trek: Discovery.  Though if you wanted something non-comic related, you probably are in the wrong thread.

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 16th December 2018

The dark of the year has hit the shows, while only the darkest (Titans) is still working this year.  In case you missed it last week, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina revives the tradition of yuletide ghost stories for the longest night of the year, but otherwise we get a nice long festive break.

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 9nd December 2018

The big Elseworlds crossover event happens, but apparently is happening without the Legends this year as it’s just The Flash, then Arrow, then Supergirl, and some other DC big names.  Meanwhile, Legends try to keep secrets, and Black Lightning get into the holiday spirit.  Titans gets back to our core cast and examine some aliens.  Marvel takes the rest of the year off, but Archie does double duty as the Gryphons & Gargoyles affects more people.  Also, Sabrina returns for a holiday special, since 🎼🎵It’s beginning to look a lot like Sol-stice🎶!

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut, except where they sucked, and I used IMDB(If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click More…  Extra warning: some of them seem a bit revealing this time.)]

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 2nd December 2018

First story’s are wrapping up in preparation for next week’s crossover in the DCETVU1, and at least for the two first two shows, we get a bonus scene apparently set in the Flash of the past.  Supergirl has Manchester Black meet his nemesis.  Arrow shows us how Oliver readjusts to his new, post-incarceration status quo.  The Legends gives us Constantine’s backstory and some interpersonal drama.  The Flash, the current one, goes back to the past, but not the 90s past.  Black Lightning and the Lightning family discover the Lightning Teen’s disappearance.  Titans revisit the Hawk and Dove back when they weren’t heroes.  In the mutant corner of Marvel’s television promises some major shake-ups.  In the dark television version of Riverdale, we get a man dressing to match their tone.

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 25th November 2018

Now that DC Universe has begun its own shows and is announcing things like Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol, and Stargirl, we may be getting to the saturation point, or are we?  How many hours a week can fans take?  If the answer is eight, this week is a good one, as James joins a hate group on Supergirl, Arrow finally gets out of prison, Biff joins his son to fight along side Earnest Hemingway, The Flash team has to weather some family drama, Black Lightning takes on the mind controlled, and Wonder Girl gets a backdoor pilot for this week’s Titans.  The Gifted ventures into the other side of the X-Gene, and those “kids” in Riverdale keep arguing with their parents.

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 18th November 2018

While the Diverse Champions soldier on through the American Thanksgiving holiday, Archie and Marvel take the week off.  Supergirl has a televised debate, a guard is murdered on Arrow, the Legends find Kaiju in Tokyo, the B team on Flash find some clues, Black Lightning faces white lightning, and the Titans visit an Asylum.  I have a backlog, which is only going to get deeper as Turkey Day brings a new Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathon!

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 11th November 2018

The weeks seem to be flooding faster than it is possible to keep up with all of these shows.  Which of these do you Bureaucrats watch?  Did you watch Supergirl fight a suped up version of that thing from Star Trek 2?  Did you watch Gene Simmons guest star on Arrow?  Did you watch a bunch of middle age adults try to pretend to be kids on either Riverdale or Legends?  Did you enjoy the family issues of the Flash family?  How about Black Lightning working with his daughter, or Titan’s attempt to visit as many of their DC properties as possible?  Do you come here to chat about Gifted while waiting for the lazy reviewer to watch and post the detailed review?

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 4th November 2018

While The Flash and Black Lightning take a week off to read Blaine’s review of Daredevil, Supergirl introduces Manchester Black in a way that makes it clear that you should know who that is, presumable from some comics.  Arrow continues chasing last seasons big bad, while the Legends of tomorrow visit the British punk scene, where Constantine should feel at home, but is instead entirely underused.  The Titans start working as a team.  In the X side of things, we get the Stepford Cuckoos Frost Triplets backstory.  Riverdale way back into the old people’s ancient past (the 90s) to see the games they played.

Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 28th October 2018

Halloween has happened, which was why I was delayed with this post, but it doesn’t seem to have affected the comic based television as much as you would expect, except that Sabrina was released.  Supergirl teases her cousin, Arrow keeps working without Arrow, the Legends lean into the magical side of things, The Flash explores what it means to be meta, Black Lightning’s situation continues to degrade, the Titans visit even more DC properties, while the Gifted introduce romances.  Riverdale takes the week off to Enjoy catching up on Sabrina’s new show.
