📺 Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 May 31

The kids are home for summer… which happened a couple of months ago thanks to the global pandemic.  Now, our shows have gone to on their summer breaks as well, which leaves us with just four genre shows.  Stargirl takes on Icicle while DC’s Legends fight Fate in a dystopia and potentially in a thong.  Marvel’s Agents continue to try to protect the time stream during prohibition.  In Blindspot, our FBI team goes up against a chemical weapon.  If this wasn’t enough cheesy campiness, Netflix is also dropping the rest of Fuller House leading to the triple wedding (three couples, not a thruple.)

📺 Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 May 24

The seasons have actually closed for most of the CW’s winter favorites, leaving us with one Debutante Covering the slightly-less-silly content.  Stargirl finds out her own history in her second episode, while the Legends abandon any pretense of not being the “meta” show, and the TV characters are thrown into TV shows.  Hopefully, Mick lands in John Doe and we get a satisfying conclusion to that series.  Meanwhile, the House of Ideas debuts the finale season of its debut MCU show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  This season promises to give us some returns of Agent Carter characters while the agents are trapped in the age of men wearing excellent fedoras.  In non-comic-based unbelievable shows, the Blindspot team deals with betrayal both in their headquarters and the FBI’s.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 May 17

The shows are winding down, not just because of that Disease, Corona, but because it’s time for seasons to end.  Though, just like Flash was hurrying up, the endings are happening faster than they had expected.  Before they’re gone, we still have Batwoman fighting a “former hero”, Supergirl turns into a soap opera as everyone has to deal with everyone the swore they would never trust again, and the Legends do Zombie Apocalypse.  Standing alone against the odds, the lone Marvel character is an animated Spider-Man, whose episode is named for the beloved 80s Spider-Man, but is actually just a Groot story.

Westworld Review: “Crisis Theory”

These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume:
–Friar Laurence, Romeo and Juliet II.vi.

Westworld comes to a conclusion that probably should end the series. Many questions remain unanswered, however, our possible extinction is obviously of interest to viewers, and the series has found an audience. Season Four will happen.

And they gave us a post-credit sequence that suggests the directions it might take.

TV Season Review: Watchmen (2019)

“I have a secret plan to save humanity and it starts in Oklahoma.”

HBO dropped a limited series1, running from October to December of 2019, which gave us a sequel to Watchmen. The influential 1985 graphic novel did not require a sequel, but this one tries to be true to its source material, and it has received numerous accolades.2

We didn’t review it at the time, but we’re examining and, hopefully, discussing the series here. Who watched the Watchmen?

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 April 19

Still inside?  Good news!  The Flash and the Legends have Defeated Corona and returned, with the Flash bringing the creepiest of assassins, Rag Doll back while the Legends seem to be planning a pastiche of Supernatural.  The anti-penultimate episode of Westworld arrives and the episode descriptions are just outright making fun of the people who are looking for individual episode descriptions.  Zoey listens to a SPRQ Point turf war, which probably will give us West Side Story vibes.  Cosmos gives a bright look at the near future.  Saul gives us season five’s finale.  The Blacklist seeks to help Dembe’s buddy.  If you want some animation, Louie turns 11 on DuckTales and Spider-Man gives some some symbiote shenanigans.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 April 12

With everyone telecommuting, the Breakroom’s television seems to be getting a break, also.  Even Westworld is just saying “No.” to our Genre.  Neil and the Scientists on Cosmos are working tirelessly, still giving us two episodes, but otherwise all we have are the villains of Riverdale as they perform a musical episode, Jimmy tries to get back to business as usual (wouldn’t we all?) and Red goes against his own task force on Blacklist.  Anyone binge anything fun lately?
