Evangelion 1.0 Isn’t Elgible For Oscar But Ponyo Is
Anime News Network is reporting that Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0: You Are (not) Alone, the first film of Gainax’s Eva reset film trilogy is, unfortunately, not eligible for the Academy award for Best Animated Feature. According to the Acadamy’s rules, a foreign film is eligible for nomination for this year’s awards if it first opened outside the US after January 1st, 2008. However, Eva 1.0 opened on September 1st, 2007, and Funimation licensed the film around December. Ponyo, however, is elgible, meeting the requirements for US and Domestic release dates. The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya Gets Theatrical Release
AnimeVice.com is reporting that The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the fourth novel in the Haruhi series, is being adapted for a theatrical release (as an animated film, not a live-action one). There had been prior rumors that the novel would be adapted to the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but instead the series was taken up by an adaptation of the novel The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, and adaptations of the short story “Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody”, and an 8-episode adaptation of the short story “Endless Eight”. Alright, I’ve gotten back from Day 2 of Kumoricon (a little early, there weren’t any other panels I wanted to go to today, and I’d spent all I could afford in the dealer room).
