Weekend Review – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
This weekend we have a review of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I’ve previously reviewed the first novel in the series, and the english translation of the second novel will be coming out later this year. The series is currently re-airing on Japanese TV, with the second season of episodes being inter-spersed in the series. So, before the new season is licensed for US release (it’s still airing on Japanese TV, having finally gotten out of the Endless Eight arc) we’ll be getting ready with the first season of the show. “Halo Legends” Announced at Comic-Con
Microsoft announced it’s new anime project, Halo Legends, at the San Diego Comic Con today. The project, a direct-to-video series of anime shorts in the vein of Batman: Gotham Knight, and the Animatrix. The studios attached to the project include Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Black Lagoon), Studio 4°C (Tekkonkinkreet, Spriggan), BONES (Fullmetal Alchemist, Wolf’s Rain), Casio Entertainment, & Toei (Harlock ’78, Sailor Moon, Galaxy Express 999) – with Toei’s installment being non-canon, the rest being within canon. Weekend Review – Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
This week our review is of one of Hayao Miyazaki’s films that, well, the lack of a review of thsi film has been a bit of an oversight – one which is now rectified. The DVD has been out for a while, and the hype behind it is enormous, but the question is – how is it in comparsion with Miyazaki’s more recent stuff.
Notes from Crunchyroll & Production IG’s panels
We’ve got a few more notes from day for of Anime Expo, this time from AnimeVice.com. Production IG (who did the Ghost in the Shell anime), announced that they are working on an anime series with Film Roman, based on Electronic Arts upcoming Dante’s Inferno game. This is the second EA game to have an animated tie-in – Dead Space had a motion comic and an animated film tying into the game as well.
Crunchyroll announced several new series that they’d be streaming, and a few they’d be similcasting, including the second season of Hayate The Combat Butler, Naruto Shippuden, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, and some others. Also, some of thse shows will becoming “catalog” titles, meaning once the show has completed they will still have episodes available for streaming on the site.
Licence notes from Anime Expo
Well, in addition to the 4th of July festivities going on across the US this weekend, we’ve also got another event going on in the US – Anime Expo in Southern California. While I was not able to attend this year, I was able to get some information from other sites about the new licences and so forth coming from the convention.
