Weekly New Releases – July 15, 2025

Sorry this week’s is so late. Alex had his end done promptly, but I took a week’s vacation out of province and let it too long to catch up upon my return. The tardiness is entirely my fault.

Comments Blaine: In a major “before they were stars” type of movie, Paul Walker’s character has his brain implanted in an animatronic T-Rex by Terry Kiser’s character, but that’s enough to finally get the attention of Denise Richards’ character. The “unrated” part refers to the gore.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “My 4K Pick of the week is Shane, with Battle Beyond the Stars running a close second. World God Only Knows is a decent rom-com anime that works (somewhat by default) as an anime pick of the week.” Blaine says, “I’ve always had a soft spot for Arsenic and Old Lace, which is a great comedy for the Halloween season, even if Cary Grant was never happy with how campy his performance is. (It should be noted that he played campy only because he was directed to do so.)”

  1. Barry Lyndon I think I talked about last week? TL;DR: Very good but I’m never watching it again.

I remember seeing Battle Beyond the Stars in my local tiny movie theatre when I was a kid. Nowadays I know it’s barely a B-movie but at the time me and my friends loved it. I do think I’ve seen it since then but honestly I’m kind of curious about this release — it’s remastered in 4K and has a ton of extra/special features. I might actually pick it up.

  2. If you’re into WW2 flicks, don’t miss Fury. It’s pretty graphic, but it feels real. The five guys in the tank really crank it up to 11. It’s probably the best performance turned in by Shia Labeouf (who plays a Bible-quoting tank gunner).

You won’t have that heroic, uplift that you got from Saving Private Ryan. More like, “War is absolute Hell and we should probably rethink it”.
