American History Trivia II | Dorky Geeky Nerdy Trivia Podcast #337
Summer school is in session. It’s time for a repeat topic. This is the first time I’ve repeated a topic, but it is the most downloaded episode of the show, ever. So, for July, it’s American History Trivia II.

I am perpetually surprised by the things not being taught to me as an American student. My Canadian buddy’s brother teaches here, and got in trouble for teaching how the US lost the war against them. (I was more specific, but it’s the answer to Dorky#6.)
Dorky – 7 right, 7 points – Bad start, I knew that answer but didn’t realize you meant that one…
Geeky – 6 right, 12 points – Bonus: Planned Parenthood was originally a racist eugenics program. For all the good they do now, I find it encouraging that an organization can acknowledge mistakes and correct them. ‘When you know better, you do better.’
Nerdy – 1 right, 3 points – I was wrong about the confederacy, I gave them 50% more time than they had. That means I have successfully run my own business twice as long as the south.
I like to think of it as “Obama’s presidency lasted twice as long as the Confederacy.”
And the gaps in American History curricula in public school are part of the reason I did this topic again.
If you’re interested in going down the proverbial rabbit hole, check out “Lies My Teacher Told Me.” The author is a historian and a textbook writer. He lays out the gaps in what’s being taught and why (surprise, it’s conservative politics!)
