In which the cadets of the newly reformed Starfleet Academy do battle with their words. Jay-Den Kraag must deal with his past while confronting the future of the Klingon people.
Pronunciation tip for podcasters and youtubers: “Ex-chel-so” not “Ex-sel-so”. “CE” is a “CHE” sound in Latin. Source: Ex-Catholic that had to sing a lot of Latin.

Well look got the pole removed from his hindquarters! Sort of.
It’s not The Drumhead, but I do love it when Trek gets all debate-y. What constitutes ‘Help’ and do we still help when it’s not asked for? Starfleet has a long history of “here, let us help you, we know best” so it’s definitely something worth examining.
I’m also down with digging into Jay-Den’s past. The pacifistic warrior ethos is interesting.
Music: 10/10 no notes. The old-school Klingon theme making an appearance was perfection. Made me smile.
I enjoyed this. I want to say that up front because I am going to gripe, but overall, I liked the episode and I have a positive feeling about it.
I felt like we had to suspend disbelief a lot to have the entire Klingon race be reduced and wandering, then have a kid at school who talks haltingly and reluctantly be the only Klingon left who can suggest the painfully obvious strategy, and the entire federation goes along with it and everyone lives!
I liked the concept, but Star Trek has had a real issue lately with a character on the show we watched has a compassionate idea, and now entire planets will turn reverse decades or century old policy/practice to join the party and play nice.
Also, they talk of Jay-Den being the only Klingon, you’ve got Lura right there!
