Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Discussion

“Mr. Ferguson is Ill Today.”

This episode apparently gave us multiple perspectives on the story. How did that work out?

  1. Are the new endoskeletons made out of egg shells?
It’s a shame Sarah never realised that a terminator could be killed by a simple shotgun blast to the head during the Terminator movie. Would have made the film a lot shorter and avoided all that running around to find a hydraulic press. Especially since the T-800s from the movies are, according to the producers, less armoured than the T-888s from the series. And I don’t know why anyone is worried about the future war – I dare say humanity will be able to defeat Skynet’s armies of T-888s using nothing more than a few butter knives.

Remember back in the pilot, Cromartie got shot with a big freakin future gun, and his head was flung through a time bubble with the Connors. It’s a miracle *cough* that the head even made it through in a functional state, but now we know that the metal did get weakened drastically as a result.

You act like she shot him once and he went down. She and Derek unloaded several clips from automatic weapons into him first and it’s quite possible that the repeated impacts lead to a fracture in the metal that allowed Cameron’s shotgun blast to do more significant damage.

Consider also that Skynet could be balancing better armor to make smaller/lighter Terminators that generally equal the endurance of the older models. Or does it not bother you that Cameron is 1/10th the Schwarzenegger terminator’s mass yet has shown no problems fighting bigger terminators hand to hand?

If you want to whine about things, why did they design the Terminators with their CPU’s in their heads in the first place? It’s the smallest/weakest part of the body. It really should be located somewhere in the torso which could be more heavily armored.

Thinking about it, who says she was firing buckshot? She could have been using deer slugs, which are large copper slugs in a shotgun shell.

        • Re: Are the new endoskeletons made out of egg shells?

          copper slugs…

          Nah,

Holy cow. Discussing how to take down a T-888 is the geek equivalent of arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. NOTHING in this show makes logical sense, and we’re trying to figure out what shotgun load they used? Sheesh.

Actually, Cameron reloaded the shotgun shells herself with slugs made of the metal they stole that the Terminators are made of…

That would explain why Cameron was saving the coltan! To make Terminator-piercing shells!!

According to the writers, she was was using depleted Uranium:

"19:14 Dan (Writer) re: the rounds in the shotgun, our resident experts on that stuff are Ash Miller and Zack Stentz. They researched it and it’s a special round with a depleted uranium core. They actually exist."

Of course, even regular shells may have worked given Cameron’s amazing aim. I’m pretty sure she put four or five rounds straight into Cromartie’s eye socket. (Likely the least-armored spot on his body.)

  2. Reality Check – I’d Take Leslie Over Cameron
The ratings stats are out in todays USA Today for last week’s T:SCC ep – it had 5.2 million viewers, at least 12% of whom were 50 or older (like me, geezers too old to spend money on the type of ads run) for a tie at 71st place.

These are not good numbers. In comparison, the two hour showing of Kitchen Nightmares on Fox (yeah, I’ve never heard of it either – but that’s the point) got "only" 4.7 million viewers. In comparison, the latest ep of Fringe got 8.9 million viewers with an extra 2.6 million getting it on TiVo and watching it time delayed.

For the record, T:SCC is moving to Fridays after the turn of the year and will be followed in its timeslot by Dollhouse starting on Friday, February 13. Don’t get too attached, Friday is the death zone where Fox shows go to die.

Meanwhile, currently in the same time slot as T:SCC over on CBS is the H I L A R I O U S Big Bang Theory. If you haven’t seen this, use the other channel of your dual-tuner TIVO to watch it as I do along with 9.7 million others. BBT is a GREAT show and absolutely could not be more relevant to guys that argue over the shotgun load used to take out a T-888. The BBT Season 1 DVD set is on my Christmas gift short list for under $20 over on Amazon, and I am looking forward to catching up all the back BBT eps between Christmas and New Years.

Bottom line, if I lived in some alternate reality without a dual tuner TiVo and actually had to choose, I would watch BBT over T:SCC, hands down.

But I have become enamored of this series.

What is your definition of enamored?

I am very fond of it. With DVR I do not miss episodes. Definition #2 in the online Webster’s, http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/enamored . :)

It’s not like I want to have its children or anything.

In all seriousness though I do enjoy the show, and I appreciate the risks the writers and directors have been taking this year to present the story in a different way.

I was confused by the "but" in "I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, but I have become enamored of this series."

I read it as, "I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, but [then again], I have become enamored of this series, [so naturally I would enjoy it more than most people might].

Others, of course, are thoroughly enamored of the butt in this series, but that is another matter.

Yea, even if I didn’t like the show (which I do) I would probably STILL watch it just for Summer Glau, for she is the hotness.
