This weekend we continue with the Ghost In The Shell franchise with the second season of the TV series. Weekend Review – Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex
This weekend’s review is of the spinoff/reboot TV series from the manga by Masamune Shirow. Hopefully, the characterization problems with the first movie can be resolved with a 26-episode TV series. Are they? Continue reading →
Lord of the Ring Court Case Settled
TheOneRing.net and IGN.com are reporting (in 2 different articles each with different chunks of the story), that the Tolkein estate has settled with New Line, with Christopher Tolkein saying outright in his statement about the lawsuit that, quote, “New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of The Hobbit.”
I’m afraid that I’m torn between sighing with relief and dancing for joy.
Dispatches from Kumoricon 2009 – Day 2
Alright, I’ve gotten back from Day 2 of Kumoricon (a little early, there weren’t any other panels I wanted to go to today, and I’d spent all I could afford in the dealer room). Now that I can get online, here are my thoughts on day 2. Oh, and for those who are hoping for photographs and other pictures, I’ll get those for you later.
Dispatches from Kumoricon 2009 – Day 1
Well, I just got back from Kumoricon 2009. My reports and thoughts on day 1 of the Con, and what I said, saw, and did, below the break.
Weekend Review – Silent Mobius (TV)
This time I’ve got a review for you of the anime that made Kia Asamiya famous, (at which point you go “Who?”) or at least got him his brief runs on an X-Men title, as well as getting DC to give him permission to write “Batman: Child of Dreams” – which in turn made it back to the US with an English script by Max Allen Collins (which is a review for another time). Anyway – Silent Mobius – is it good, bad or ugly? Continue reading →

Weekly Digital Disk Picks – August 25th, 2009
The TV flood begins early this year. I suspect that they are trying to recover viewers lost during the strike by getting seasons out on DVD and Blu-Ray early enough to catch up before the new season starts.
Weekend Review – Karas
This weekend I’ve got a review for you of the 6-episode OVA Karas, which was released in the US on DVD as two hour-and-a-half long films Karas: The Prophesy, and Karas: The Revalation. We’ll see how this anime version of a Henshin (transforming hero) series works out. Continue reading →
Weekend Review – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
This weekend we have a review of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I’ve previously reviewed the first novel in the series, and the english translation of the second novel will be coming out later this year. The series is currently re-airing on Japanese TV, with the second season of episodes being inter-spersed in the series. So, before the new season is licensed for US release (it’s still airing on Japanese TV, having finally gotten out of the Endless Eight arc) we’ll be getting ready with the first season of the show.
