I just received word (via a friend of his on the
Larry Niven Discussion mailing list) that Poul
Anderson passed away last night. I’ll post a link to
mainstream press articles if I find any.

Bulwer-Lytton Awards Given
The annual Bulwer-Lytton awards, given to the person
who writes the first sentence of the wosrt imaginable
novel, were awarded yesterday. The winners in all
categories (including the sci-fi and fantasy
categories) are given here.
I love the sci-fi dishonourable mention: Rodney
knew that he was going to die a horrible, screaming,
unspeakable death, when he arrived on the bridge in a
uniform that did not match the others, was referred
to only as “yeoman” and was to be sent planetside
with Captain Kirk and the regular away team.
Book Review – “The Ringworld Engineers”
Another spoiler free book review follows. Read more
for the goodies.
Book Review – “Ender’s Shadow”
This review is on Ender’s Shadow, the
parallel novel to Ender’s Game. Once again,
spoiler free goodness is just a click away.
Book Review – “Ringworld”
Here’s the first of our book reviews. This time it’s
Ringworld. I know the book is 31 years old,
but it’s still good, and the movie is in the works,
so it seemed appropriate. Read on for the
spoiler-free goodness.
Bradbury, The Busy Bee
Ray Bradbury just doesn’t know when to say when. He just finished writing — with pad and pen, mind you — a new adaptation of The Illustrated Man for the Sci-Fi Channel. He’s also involved in a new adaptation of Fahrenheit 451, and about a zillion other movie projects, and he’s got several new books due out later this year. If you can wrap your head around so many projects, read all about ’em.
New Douglas Adam Book Planned
hossman writes, Saw it on slashdot…
“The BBC and the Independant on Sunday have the news that all the remaining Douglas Adams material is going to be published later on this year, including the unfinished novel ‘The Salmon of Doubt’ and the proposed screenplay for the Hitchhikers Guide movie”
Towel Day
Erf writes, In honour of Douglas Adams’s passing, the folks at Binary Freedom have proposed Towel Day. On May 25, two weeks after DNA’s passing, “All Douglas Adams fans are encouraged to carry a towel with them for the day.”
I know it was on Slashdot, but this is a truly good idea — DNA is one of the few authors for whom I’ll gladly indulge in such a “silly” tribute. I wonder if the folks at work will let me get away with this…
Douglas Adams Passed Away
According to this BBC article, Douglas Adams passed away at age 49 from a heart attack on the morning of Friday, May 11.
I think I’ll reread “Hitch Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” now.
Golden Duck Awards
Every year, three of the best children’s Sci-Fi books are honored with a Golden Duck Award.
Because it’s never too early to warp a young child’s mind.
