Video Game Review – Prince of Persia (PS3)

A couple years ago, Ubisoft did a brief reboot to the Prince of Persia franchise–one which, from what’s been released about the next game, will probably be a one off thing. The game was criticized by some Hardcore Gamers (I feel like I put a “z” at the end of that for some reason) for being too easy, for not having enough combat. Some time has past since the game came out and now I’ve gotten my hands on it, and I’ve beaten it – the Epilogue DLC too. So, it’s time for me to give my thoughts on the definitive Prince of Persia experience. After hearing all the negative buzz, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

Note: This review includes notes on the Epilogue DLC Continue reading →

Video Game Review – Ghostbusters (PS3)

Last year we finally got what could best be described as the 3rd installment of the Ghostbusters series. It was written by the writers of the films, and got the original actors who played the four Ghostbusters back together. Why didn’t you see it in theaters? Because it was a video game.  Now I’ve played it, so now I’m gonna review it. No, I’m not going to reference the Ghostbusters theme song in the intro.

Video Game Review – Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (PS3)

It’s safe to say that most Indiana Jones games that didn’t use the SCUMM engine weren’t particularly very good. Well, shortly after the launch of the PS3, one of the first PS3 titles to come from a 3rd party developer (though from a first party publisher) was Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, a game that tried to have the Indiana Jones style, but with some modern sensibilities, and a modern setting. When the game came out, the game got good review scores, was considered to be a system seller, and frankly did well enough to get a sequel which came out last year. So, I’ve played the game, and I like it – but does it have that good Indiana Jones feel?

Video Game Review – Bayonetta (PS3)

That’s right. We’ve got another review of a video game basically a week after the game came out. In this case, it’s Bayonetta, the new action from from Platnium Games (which is made up of the team which made Okami, God Hand, and Viewtiful Joe), and specifically from the creator of Devil May Cry. Does it hold up to its pedigree, or does it kind of fall down on its face?

Video Game Review – Batman: Arkham Asylum

As 2009 comes to a close, I and my new Gamefly subscription are going to get started catching up with some of the games from 2009 and earlier. Today we ring in the New Year with Batman: Arkham Asylum, a game that has been lauded by other members of the gaming press as the best Batman game of all time. Well… being that I’m not other members of the gaming press, let’s see what I think. Continue reading →

Video Game Review – Brutal Legend

I’ve got another video game review for you, and one for a game that’s actually rather current (having been released just over a week ago). The game is Brutal Legend, and it’s the latest game from Tim Schafer, who put out Psychonauts. I’ve previously covered news articles about the game’s trials and tribulations in coming to market. The question is, was it worth the wait? Continue reading →

Brutal Legend Lawsuit Settled

The LA Times is reporting that Activision has settled their lawsuit with Double Fine which attempted to block or delay the release of Brutal Legend, after statements from the judge prior to their hearing indicated that his ruling was likely not going to be favorable to Activision in the slightest. The conditions of the settlement have currently not been released, but if they are released, they’ll be posted here. Continue reading →

Teaser site for new MegaTen game up

Joystiq is reporting that a teaser site is up for a new Shin Megami Tensei game from Atlus Japan, titled Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. The site features the logo and title for the game (currently) as well as an image of the Earth with a big gaping hole in it. According to further scans from Famitsu (as reported on by Joystiq), it’s an RPG for the DS which returns the series to the first person perspective that it had when the series started on the SNES back in 1992.
