Our patience is rewarded! This week, we get the return of Pennyworth with his second season to watch the Wayne’s butler learn the benefits of being stately. Also, the Belters return for (possibly?) their penultimate season, as the Belt goes to war with the Inners. The Expanse, which might be some of the best true Sci-Fi on TV joins the other two finest space shows, with the Discovery giving us the second half of a romp into the Mirror universe, and the season finale of The Mandalorian, as he, Boba Fett, and Agent May attempt to retrieve The Child. Before all that, however, X-23 Lyra and Will ramps up towards its finale.

This week delivers a solid dramatic episode, even if the science is pure comic book. Yeoh gets to demonstrate her abilities, David Cronenberg returns, and yes, apparently Remans still exist.
However, as it is Part One of a two-parter, I’m going to post a discussion. We’ll have a full review next week.
As we crawl towards the end of the year, the seasons crawl to their end as well. Daleks wraps up its animated offering, The Mandalorian takes a fan-favorite (and a clone) with him on his Penultimate episode, Will and Lyra chase their golden compass on the Anti-penultimate episode of His Dark Materials, and Discovery gives us the first of a two parter. Seems kinda sparse, but on the horizon for next week is a return of a favorite butler and a miner skirmish.

Fans of pop SF know there is no sanctuary. That reference notwithstanding, Discovery must address the twin threats of a swarm of sea-locusts and an Emerald Chain Big Bad.
Meanwhile, Stamets and Adira bond while uncovering the source of the Burn, Book confronts his brother, Detmer gets to be an action hero, the medical team examine Georgiou, and Linus is a-peeling.1
If the delay is the new seasons have you depressed, take heart in the fact that between Discovery and Mandalorian we are getting some of the best examples of the two biggest franchises in our genre. This week, Discovery travels to Books homeworld, and Mando continues to reel back from learning that The Child has a name. His Dark Materials has our kids quest to retrieve their golden compass. The Good Doctor struggles with teaching. If you are still looking for animation the Ducks have Scrooge and Santa Claus team up, and the Daleks continue their game of cat and mouse in the universe of 90’s level CGI.

Discovery visits Star Trek‘s most famous alien world as they try to solve the mystery of the Burn.
This week on the Television Table, we get Discovery and some 32nd century Vulcans, while the Mandalorian gets some Jedi. Meanwhile His Dark Materials shows us what happens when Lyra disbelieves her golden compass. The Dalek’s CGI videos over on YouTube continue as the Strategist and Emperor try to escape the green blob that is after them, and The Good Doctor steps up his relationship.

“My sentiments exactly.”
–Saru, in response to Tilly losing her composure and swearing multiple times.
Burnham and Georgiou play action heroes in a serviceable Trek planet story while the rest of the crew adjust to upgrades and future realities.
The first thing in this list that jumped out at me was the fact that I can’t see a listing anywhere for the third episode of this season’s Blacklist, and this week’s is labeled as “Conclusion,” but a bit of web research is inconclusive but seems to indicate they are referring to the fact that it’s season seven’s conclusion, pushed to this season. Going in reverse order this week, we also get Marvel’s 616, a series that examine the characters in-universe. The two best genre shows currently on television, possibly the two best shows on television at all, also appear. The Mandalorian doesn’t give us a description, and some of the crew of Discovery are going to meet with Book. Reinforcements show up to deal with the pandemic on The Good Doctor. In His Dark Materials, Lyra crosses into the show’s version of our real world.
