Firefly DVD’s nominated for Saturn award

TwistyHat

Firefly DVD set has been nominated for a Saturn in the “Best DVD Television Release”
category. Saturns are awarded by the Academy of
Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. Membership
is only $40 for an out of state membership – i wonder
if there is time to vote :o)
That link also has
a complete list of nominations. If I were a betting
man, I’d bet on X2, LOTR:ROTK,
28 Days Later, Kill Bill Vol. 1,
Finding Nemo, Viggo Mortenson, Jennifer
Connelly, Andy Serkis, Keira Knightley, (don’t know
for the child actors), Peter Jackson, the
LOTR:ROTK team, Howard Shore (although I
prefer Danny Elfman’s work), Ngila Dickson and
Richard Taylor, Rick Baker’s team, and the LOTR team
for effects. As for the TV nominations, I don’t
watch enough to feel comfortable voting in all
categories, but I think Alexis Denisof deserves to
win. He’s done fantastic work.

Razzies Awarded – Oscars tonight

A full list of Razzie winners is available here.
(The nomination list is here.)
Gigli cleaned up, but genre entertainment
still shared the worst actor (Ben Affleck for
Daredevil, Gigli, and
Paycheck), and won worst supporting actor
(Stallone in Spy Kids 3-D) and worst excuse
for an actual movie (The Cat In The Hat).
The Razzies are always given the day before the
Oscars, which air tonight on ABC.

Great Universal Monster Collections due April 27

In the 1930s and 1940s, Universal Pictures released
some classic horror films, including
Dracula, Frankenstein, and the
Wolf Man. When I learned of the Legacy
collections coming out April 27, I was tempted to
shell out the $80US MSRP for the box set for those
three movies. Well, I’ve just learned that the
Legacy sets include more than three films. They have
four Dracula films, five
Frankenstein films, and four Wolf
Man
films. That’s 13 classic movies in a very
fancy box for a very reasonable price. The total
running time is over 1000 minutes. It’s a six DVD
set, with loads of extras. I’m going to have to
redraw my budget for the summer. You can pick them
up here
and elsewhere.

Timeline of SciFi movies

Anonymous Coward writes, Hi there! I came up with the idea to put sci-fi movies in a chronological order. The problem is that there are many movies that don’t really refer to a specific point in time whereas others mention a concrete date. I’ve tried to put those that show a certain specified time in my list here. You’re welcome to contribute more to that list by either filling out the form on that page mentioned above or write an email to [email protected]! Thanks! Hannes
