Firefly back on tonight

y42 writes, Just thought that a little heads up that Firefly will be on
tonight (instead of old Adam Sandler flicks) might be in
order…

That’s a good sign.

    Awesome!
I just finished watching tonight’s episode, and it’s the best hour of television I have seen in a while. There’s loads of both action and humor. No way in hell Fox will get away with cancelling this gem of a show now. No power in the ‘verse can stop Firefly now.

If you’re in a timezone where War Stories hasn’t aired yet, do not miss this.

I agree. Even compared to recent episodes of Whedon’s other two shows (both having very good seasons) this episode was absolutely amazing.

There were so many subtle elements in this one that have built on almost every single past episode. Yet there was still time to create possible future storylines. One of the pleasures in this show is that you don’t know which way people are going to jump. Although in the past Whedon succeeded in breaking out of the stereotypical situations that a horror/adventure show might have, with Firefly you get this delightfully rich set of possibilities since it really isn’t clear what type of show it is.

I hope it continues to be unclassifiable.

    Fun
This episode was a kick. Jayne sure spends a lot of time in his bunk….

    Yey
After two weeks of relying on Enterprise for my SciFi TV Needs, it was REAL nice to have Firefly back. I didn’t even wait till it was over to start watching! (TiVo rocks btw).

    Great Show!
Well after quite a few initial reservations about the concept on my part I have to admit that I really am enjoying this show. Great dialog and character development. Puts the crapolla that Berman and Braga put out on Enterprise to shame!.

Especially liked the bit of dialog where the 1st officer says "Don’t help him…this is something the captain has to do for himself" and just as you think they’re going to stick with this tired bit of dialog the Captain yells "No it isn’t!" and the officers shrug their shoulders blow away the bad guy. Nice take on some worn out B&B style dialog — very funny :)

    nobody expects the …
War Stories was an excellent episode. I am even going to set my TiVo to catch the rerun of that episode.

    Great moments:

“Him.” I did not expect, and in retrospect whether she did it because Wash was her husband, Mal could better handle torture, using the pilot to rescue the captian was a better plan than using the captian to rescue the husband/pilot, just to throw Niska off his stride, or some other reason. I had to replay it to be sure it had happened.

“I’ll be in my bunk” got funnier every time Jayne said it.

When Wash changes stride from panic to anger at Mal getting Zoe into situations like this while they are both still blindfolded was another delightful unexpected twist.
“No I don’t!” was pure genius.

I didn’t understand Kaylee not being able to shoot but Rivers recovery of the situation was great.

The torture scene was the best piece of TV I have seen in a long time, it knocked Monty Pythons Spanish Inquisition with its big comfey chair and its soft fluffy pillows out of the number one spot. Returning from commercial to find Mal and Wash still arguing about the same thing despite being electrocuted was the most riveting thing I can remember. And the look on Niskas face, he believed they were more concerned with their argument than his torture. Right up until Wash passed out. Until then I don’t think the torture intruded on the argument.

This is the episode they should submit for award consideration.
