This weekend’s review, takes us out of the Patlabor TV continuity, and back to the OVA continuity, with a sequel to the first movie, set several years later, and also puts the franchise back in the hands of Oshii, who brought this movie out before Ghost In The Shell, but after the creation of his (in)famous Jin-Roh franchise, and his first live-action film, which was also in the Jin-Roh series. Can he bring the funny back, or will we start seeing some of the humor-less tone of his later works? Continue reading →

Comic Review: DC – The New Frontier (Vol. 2)
So, we conclude our review (which we started last week) of DC: The New Frontier with the second half of the comic, in which things come to, well, a conclusion (as opposed to just getting left hanging – which is annoying. The ending of DC: The New Frontier on the other hand… well, I’m not going to spoil my own review. Continue reading →
Possible English re-release of Ghost in the Shell, Akira Manga
Anime News Network is reporting that the first volume of the Akira and Ghost in the Shell manga are currently up for pre-order on Amazon.com. Making the fact that both of these manga are coming back into print slightly more notable is that the titles are not being published by Dark Horse Comics, their previous licensor, but by Kodansha Comics. Kodansha is the Japanese rightsholder for both of these titles, and published the original manga for both titles in Young Magazine.
Dark Horse is the licensor of several other Kodansha titles, including You’re Under Arrest, Oh! My Goddess, Gunsmith Cats, and Blade of the Immortal.
Four Central Park Media Titles Rescued
Well, the first four of Central Park Media’s prior titles have been saved from near oblivion. AnimeVice reports that ADV has grabbed the licenses for Grave of the Fireflies, Now and Then Here and There, World of Narue, and MD Geist (the main character of MD Geist was the “mascot” for CPM’s “US Manga Corps” line. The status of other series such as Dominion Tank Police, Patlabor, Armored Trooper Votoms, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Project A-Ko, and Record of Lodoss War are still up in the air. Continue reading →
Central Park Media files for Bankruptcy
Anime News Network reports that Central Park Media, licensors of Mobile Police Patlabor, Grave of the Fireflies, Record of Lodoss War, Project A-Ko, Armored Trooper Votoms, and many other shows and films has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Unlike Chapter 11 and 13 bankruptcy – Chapter 7 means that all of CPM/US Manga Corps assets will be liquidated, including their entire back catalog of licences that they still hold.
Comic Review – DC The New Frontier Vol. 1
Previously, we’ve reviewed Justice League: The New Frontier, a direct-to-video animated movie adapted from Darwyn Cooke’s graphic novel, taking the Silver Age and re-spinning it to reflect the real-world politics of the time, and some more modern sensabilities. At the time of that review, we hadn’t done a review of the much longer graphic novel on which the comic was based. We’re rectifying that now with a review of part 1, with part 2 to follow next week. The rumors have been brewing for quite some time, and at last we have conformation – Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 will be coming to the X-Box 360 through XBLA (X-Box Live Arcade) and to the Playstation 3 through Playstation Network.
The game will have it’s full roster, plus the addition of online multiplayer. Presumably the 360 and PS3 versions will have Achivements and Trophies, respectively.

Weekend Review – Mobile Police Patlabor: New Files (OVA)
This weekend we continue with the reviews of the Patlabor Franchise, with the OVA (Original Video Animation) sequel to the TV Series reset. Does it bear up to the spinoff and the source material, or as Ota does oh so often, does it miss the mark?
Weekend Review – Mobile Police Patlabor (TV)
Our weekend review for this week continues with the Mobile Police Patlabor franchise, this time with the franchise’s first reset for it’s first (and, technically, only) TV series (and it’s a long one too.)
Weekend Review – Dragonball: Evolution
Well, I’m reviewing a new release for once. While it’s still in theaters even. The live-action adaptation of Akira Toriyama’s classic anime and manga Dragonball is now in theaters, will this be better than the last adaptation of Dragonball? Will it better than the live-action adaptation of Fist Of The North Star? Or will this be one really big stinkburger.
