When the studios start spending buckets of money, that’s how you know they’re actually planning to make it into a movie. Case in point: “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” which just got a $70 million cash infusion in exchange for the foreign distribution rights. Requisite news story.

Boy Band NSync Will Appear In Star Wars 2
I’ll never complain about those Star Trek/WWF crossovers again… Lucasfilm has confirmed that the members of ‘N Sync will appear in “Star Wars II”. It’s reportedly a non-speaking, non-singing, non-credited role, but that just doesn’t quite get the ill taste out of my mouth.
Oops… and Happy New Year
At some point over the weekend, the database server got toasted, and everything posted after about noon on Sunday was non-recoverable. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”
So now, my New Years’ resolution is to get even better backups in place. How about you? What are you looking forward to this year – Star Wars II, Harry Potter II, Lord of the Rings II, or something that doesn’t have a Roman numeral behind it?

Red Dwarf: The RPG
Okay, so it’s not due out for almost a year, and I’m not actually sure how it’ll work (unless it focuses on events after Series 8, when there are more than a dozen people in the universe), but Deep 7’s Red Dwarf RPG oughta be good for a laugh.

X-Files 2: Coming Soon?
This could just be Standard Hollywood Rumor #46887541, but Variety is reporting that Chris Carter and 20th Century Fox (shouldn’t they change their name at some point?) are in negotiations to make a second X-Files movie, slated to star Gillian Anderson and (gasp!) David Duchovny.
E.T. Controversy
This sparked a lot of debate on a couple of local mailing lists I’m on, and maybe it’ll do the same thing here. Short version: In the upcoming DVD release of E.T. the Federales won’t be wielding shotguns anymore. In their place will be… walkie-talkies? (Full story follows)

Harry Potter Premieres in .uk
… and it got the highest blessing of them all – series author J.K. Rowling said, “The film was just as I had imagined it.” I’d include a link to the original story but that’s pretty much it.
