Star Wars Fan Film Network

At long last, Lucasfilm has finally realized that fan-produced films aren’t at all omens of the Dark Side. Instead of suing them out of existence, there’s now an official home for ’em. Internet film distributor AtomFilms will handle the technical side of distributing fun farces like the Cops-inspired Troops and, if we’re lucky, even “Dark Redemption.” The site, when it opens up, will be over here.

From The Creators Of South Park…

The boys are at it again. They’re working on “Family First,” a sitcom (with real live actors, nonetheless!) which will star, well, we don’t know yet.

See, the stars will be actors portraying whoever wins that silly election tomorrow (and it’s still way too close to call). It’s set to debut at the end of February — since the South Park team is used to working like meth-addicted college students to rewrite whole shows at the last minute, the relatively short deadline (in sitcom terms) shouldn’t faze ’em at all. Obligatory “read more” article is over here.

Great Star Wars Models For POVRAY

fiziko writes, “In the spirit of cool things done with sci fi stuff, here’s a page with all the links and software you need to make some great looking Star Wars images. It’s free, and very high-quality. (It uses POV-Ray.)” The front-page graphics look nifty, but the inevitable image gallery isn’t there yet. Still, for the technically inclined among us, this is promising.

E.T. Phones Home Again

It’s nice to know that movie studios have their priorities in the right place.

“E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” the tear-jerking tale of a boy and his alien, will be re-released in 2002 for its 20th anniversary. Why mention this now? Because the toys are already being announced. Maybe they’ll go dig up some of those five million extra copies of the Atari 2600 E.T. game that were supposedly buried in the desert and sell them too…
