Later this week, we may have an actual review of the Smallville finale, if we can find someone on staff masochistic enough to write it. Meanwhile, we can discuss two hours that make Superman III and IV look coherent and memorable.
In a possibly related story, we will at least be spared the disastrous-looking Wonder Woman tv show.
If you haven’t read Axe Cop, the web phenom Newsarama calls the “best comic ever,” you really should hit this link and enjoy the experience. Basically, comic-book artist Ethan Nicolle, 29 when he started this (now 30), and his brother, Malachai Nicolle (5, now 6) collaborate to translate Malachai’s violent, imaginative stories and primary-school dialogue into an ongoing adventure that strips to the bone the childish wish-fulfillment that underlies super- and action- heroes.
Dark Horse has given them a chance on an actual comic series; it begins with a three-issue mini in which the blade-wielding titular officer and his adventure-seeking, villain-wasting team must face the terror of… Bad Guy Earth!
NASA once again has delayed Endeavour’s launch1, Space memorabilia fetches top prices at auction , MIT physicists discuss the multiverse, and Julian Assange calls Facebook and Google appalling spy machines….
And so Fringe concludes…. For now.
Observations?
Penguicon 2011 has ended, and once more proved successful.
(The ending features a short interview with Jay Maynard, aka “the Tron Guy.”)
The awesomeness that is Penguicon, Michigan’s combination SF/Fantasy and Linux/Open Source Con returns April 29-May 1 to Troy, MI.
Some video and my schedule appear below– and the official link shows you just how much more this Con has to offer.
We’ll likely be reviewing the season as a whole once again. Meanwhile, people may want to discuss the season premiere, in which the Doctor comes to America, dies, invites companions old and new to help him out, meets Richard Nixon, traces a call, and discovers a fairly creepy mystery.
It’s a good start– but Matt Smith’s Doctor still strikes me as a little thick.
Walternate messes with the weather, Peter and Olivia are meant to be together…. And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
Peter, Bell, and Walter go on a fantastic voyage into Olivia’s mind.
Any thoughts?
Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod in the forthcoming Superman movie, tentatively titled Man of Steel.
Will this work? And which villain or plot would you prefer to see? We’ve had Zod and Luthor before– and most of Superman’s villains have never made it to the big screen.
