Weekend Review: The Fountain
We look this week at a comparatively recent film (2006) that we missed first time around. For that matter, so did most people. It’s doing a little better on DVD.
Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream) spent six year trying to get this film made. Original stars Brad Pitt and Kate Blanchett quit, funding was slashed, original set pieces were auctioned….

2007 Hugo Awards

The 2007 Hugo Awards took place last week in Yokohama, Japan. Vernor Vinge’s Rainbows End received Best Novel and Pan’s Labyrinth took best dramatic presentation, long form.
Weekend Review: Cube
This low-budget 1997 film connected with an audience and rated two bigger-budget sequels, neither of which equals the original. Its premise loosely resembles that of tv’s Lost, with a greater emphasis on death-traps.
