I previously reviewed the first volume of CLAMP’s universe-jumping series Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. As the series is going to be putting out a lot of references to other CLAMP works, I’ve decided to get caught up on some of CLAMP’s old stuff. Yes, a lot of the references will be accounted for in the translator’s notes, but sometimes it’s good to not have to rely on the translator’s notes. So, what better place to begin than at the beginning – CLAMP’s first original work, R.G. Veda. For the first volume of a first series, how does it hold up? Continue reading →

Weekend Review – Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Solid State Society
So, after a break for Halloween, we’re going to wrap up our Ghost In The Shell anime reviews with the final installment of the the franchise (until they put out another one) – the movie spin-off of the TV series – Solid State Society. Does the franchise wrap up with a satisfactory conclusion, does it leave us hanging, or worse, does it leave us with a sour taste in our mouths? Continue reading →
Manga Review – Tsubasa Vol. 1
At the start of this month, I reviewed the first volume of one of CLAMP’s most recent manga, XXXHolic. That manga tied in to the first volume of CLAMP’s other major manga starting around the same time XXXHolic started – “Reservoir Chronicle Tsubasa”. I’ve now read the first volume of that comic. So – how does CLAMP’s universe jumping comic start out? Continue reading →

Anime News Network is reporting that Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0: You Are (not) Alone, the first film of Gainax’s Eva reset film trilogy is, unfortunately, not eligible for the Academy award for Best Animated Feature. The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya Gets Theatrical Release
AnimeVice.com is reporting that The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the fourth novel in the Haruhi series, is being adapted for a theatrical release (as an animated film, not a live-action one). There had been prior rumors that the novel would be adapted to the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but instead the series was taken up by an adaptation of the novel The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, and adaptations of the short story “Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody”, and an 8-episode adaptation of the short story “Endless Eight”. I have another manga review for you this week, the first installment of one of CLAMP’s two mega-crossover manga, xxxHolic, which was started with their other mega-crossover series, Resevoir Chronicles Tsubasa. So. does xxxHolic stand on it’s own, or does it lean too much on Clamp’s back catalog? Continue reading →
Weekend Review – Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence
This weekend I review Mamoru Oshii’s second outing on Ghost In The Shell. Fizko reviewed the first movie, now it’s my turn with the second. Does this one address some of the problems with the characterization, if not the pacing of the first (though, I liked the pacing of the first, particularly some of the Blade Runner-esque shots of the city, but I digress). On with the review! Continue reading →

Dispatches from Kumoricon 2009 – Day 2
Alright, I’ve gotten back from Day 2 of Kumoricon (a little early, there weren’t any other panels I wanted to go to today, and I’d spent all I could afford in the dealer room). Now that I can get online, here are my thoughts on day 2. Oh, and for those who are hoping for photographs and other pictures, I’ll get those for you later.
