It’s Not Over Until the Fat Lady Buzzes
David Cronenberg will be directing the debut of an opera based on
The Fly, the short story by George Langelaan that has twice been a film.
Since we don’t have an opera icon, I improvised. Sorry if I misled all of you BrownCoats.
Serenity 2 Rumors
Moviehole interviewed Alan Tudyk and (surprise, surprise) Universal’s contemplating Serenity 2. I guess the sales of the DVD are getting the company’s attention. Who knows, worse films have gotten sequels (AvP: Requiem, Hulk 2?).
Serenity voted best SF movie of all time
rickyjames writes, I am a devoted Browncoat, but even I have a little trouble swallowing that Serenity is the top SF movie of all time as voted by 3000 readers of the British magazine SFX. Star Wars and Blade Runner were runners-up, with Planet Of The Apes beating Matrix and Alien. Rounding out the top ten were Forbidden Planet, 2001, Terminator and Back To The Future.
Firefly: the Second Season?
Well, it’s unlikely at present, but these Browncoats seems serious, if unaffiliated with Whedon, Fox, or Universal.
Browncoats Take Back The Sky
rickyjames writes, Hundreds of Firefly fans were left holding the bag when last weekend’s Flanvention was mysteriously canceled hours before opening. No problem for Browncoats, who organized the Browncoat Backup Bash in real-time on the fly. Several Big Damn Heros including Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin showed, proving that you really can’t take the sky from Browncoats.
Firefly: The MMORPG
Multiverse, a company that appears to make MMO middleware (i.e. the stuff you use to make games, but not games themselves), announced today that they have acquired from FOX the rights to make a massively-multiplayer game based upon the ‘verse of Firefly. Multiverse’s software has already been used to make a whole bunch of games nobody’s ever heard of.
Whedon: No Serenity Sequel
Joss Whedon confirms that there aren’t any plans for a sequel to Serenity, thus:
There’s no sequel, no secret project regarding Serenity or somesuch and I’m not even sure how anyone thought there was talk there. I’ve seen Nathan and Tim (and Summer and Alan) recently because they’re my friends because I’m so, yeah, awesome. So let’s put that to bed and smother it with a pillow.
Firefly Re-mastered in 1080i: Will air on UHD
Some wacky anonymous user sent this in: Twentieth Century Fox Television has remastered the show’s 35mm print to 1080i high definition for a Sept. 24 debut on Universal HD, a network spokesperson confirmed.. If you’re one of the ten or so people who has a hi-def TV, and that channel, go to town.
Save the Serenity
The dates are fast-approaching for those charity-benefit showings of Serenity, which we mentioned a few months back.
